Somewhere Out There

Okay, so this is my EPIC fanfic. It's going to span over a considerable amount of time. The main pairing is Olivia/Alex, but because of the time span, there will be other pairings as well. The starting point begins around the beginning of Loss. It will extend up to Olivia's stint in the FBI and Alex's position as Bureau Chief in Conviction. I'm not going strictly by canon, so I guess this would be considered AU, but with the guidelines of SVU and Conviction. It will take an original turn as it progresses. I guess that's why they call it fanfiction. :) .. Anyway, this prologue begins where I stated (early "Loss") and really is just a way to express the relationship between Olivia and Alex. The deeper, intense stuff will come in the following chapters. This is by no means a completely fluffy fic. Feedback is always appreciated! So, enough babble. On with the story.

Title: Somewhere Out There
Rating Prologue - G, maybe PG. This will go back and forth over time.

“Honey, please, come to bed,” a groggy Olivia said, mid-yawn as she stood in the doorway of her living room. She had her pajamas on - a black tank top and flannel pants. Her hair was slightly tussled, as she’d been asleep for a good hour and a half (more like tossing and turning, considering she’d gotten used to having a sleeping companion over the past few years). “It’s after two.”

Alex rubbed her eyes from beneath her glasses and looked up to see her tired girlfriend looking at her. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight. “You usually sleep like the dead,” she said, lowering her glasses into her lap. Spread all around her on the coffee table were files, documents, and an empty mug that had once contained coffee.

“That’s because I usually have you next to me. Come on, you’ve done all you can do for tonight.” Olivia wasn’t going to take no for an answer this time. “At least take a power nap with me, then we’ll get up and I’ll read with you. Just give me that?”

“Oh no, don’t start. You’re going to pout and then if I say no you’ll just stand there until you fall asleep standing up, and then I’ll have to take you to bed anyway.”

Olivia smirked. “So to avoid all that you should just come with me now.”

Alex looked down at all the paperwork strewn in front of her. There was still a lot she could be doing. This case was shaky at best, and it certainly wasn’t going to close itself. Rafael Zapata wasn’t the only one behind their current case. This extended far beyond that. Her eyes rose back up to look at Olivia again. “Twenty minutes. All right?” She set her glasses on the coffee table and stood up, walked to Olivia and led her to the bedroom.

They were currently at Alex’s apartment, though they frequently switched back and forth and had been doing so for the past year or so. Olivia had a few drawers and space in the closet at Alex’s, and vice versa. Olivia wanted to take the next step and live together permanently, but she wasn’t sure if Alex was ready for something like that yet. If she remembered correctly, her own lease on her apartment was coming to an end the following month. Maybe by then - Olivia’s train of thought was cut off by the sight of Alex lying down on the bed. That was what she had wanted. Olivia smiled and got back under the covers, immediately curling up next to her lovely blonde bedmate.

“Heat sponge..” Alex mumbled as she turned onto her side to face Olivia, draping an arm around her. She smiled as she felt Olivia do the same. “Did you set an alarm?”

“Mhm..” Olivia yawned as she answered. It was true; she set the alarm for the usual time they woke up in the morning. Alex didn’t need to know that just yet. She leaned in and kissed the blonde’s lips tenderly. “Love you,” she whispered as she started to gently stroke Alex’s back to lull her to sleep.

“I love you, Liv,” Alex said softly, closing her eyes and relaxing under Olivia’s affections. It didn’t take long before her breathing steadied and she succumbed to the slumber that had been looming over her for quite a while.

Olivia sighed softly, watching Alex for a few moments while the ADA slept. A smile crept onto her lips. Damn, I’m lucky.. she thought before closing her eyes and falling asleep, not even worrying about the scolding she’d receive when the alarm went off four hours from then.
