Some interesting observations on 2 Pet.3:1-15

Aug 21, 2006 08:34

1-6 People are willingly ignorant of God's perfect will for their lives.

verse 3 People who don’t accept the Bible as the authority for determining their way of life will
automatically be walking after their own lusts. These people are ultimately scoffing at their
Creator.

Verse 5 If they don’t think it will matter anyway and that they can do what they want to they will
have no reason to believe that they should try to find out what God wants them to do.

Verse 7 These people are being kept in store along with the rest of the universe by the word of
God until He will burn them in the fire that He has planned.

God reserves people for damnation and for glory
Rom.11:2-5 God reserves a people for His own
2 Peter 2:9 God knows how to reserve the righteous and the unjust
John 12:37-41 We can’t believe unless the Lord reveals Himself to us.

Verse 9 God wants all who He has given to Jesus to repent before He brings fire on them. He
wants all His sheep to be gathered in.

Verse 10 The elements shall melt with a fervent heat.

Just what would need to happen for the elements to literally melt down?

Elements consist of one of four things:

earth, air, fire, water

Earth :    Mass 6 sextillion, 588 quintillion short tons (2000 lbs)

Surface area  196,938,800 square miles

Volume   259.8 cubic miles

Length of Equator  24,859.55 miles

Length of Meridian      24,859.82 miles

Average distance from the sun     92,900,000 Miles

Area covered by oceans  145,000,000 square miles

The two main elements that make up our atmosphere are Nitrogen ( 78.03%) and Oxygen
(20.99%)
Nitrogen controls the rate of natural burning and respiration rates that would
otherwise occur if the concentration of oxygen would be higher.

Nitrogen is used in chemical processes to harden steel and is separated from
ammonia at temperatures between 475-650 degrees C or 850-1,170 degrees F so it in and of itself
functions with tremendous  heat.

Oxygen, mixed with some elements can yield flame temperatures of about 3,480
degrees C or 6,264 degrees F

It is easy to see that all God would need to do to literally melt the elements is to slightly change
the Nitrogen/Oxygen ratio of the atmosphere to potentially bring the atmosphere to a temperature
approaching 6,000 degrees F!

Verse 11 If this is the way things are what manner of persons ought ye to be.
Phil 2:12-15 We need to live a life of fear and trembling.

Verse 13 Because we believe God’s promise to us we look for a new heaven and a new earth.
Living our life for Christ, our Lord and Savior will be evidence that we are the children of God.

Verse 14 We want to be found without spot and blameless

Verse 15 We are to show by our faithfulness that Jesus can redeem lost sinners like us

the elements shall melt
