I just discovered that Ray and Charles Eames, of Eames Lounge Chair and LCW (and much more) are the same people behind the 1977 short Powers of Ten. Awesome!

I've been scouring the web for amazing dining chairs. Outside of the classic and expensive Hans Wegner Wishbone chair, I've found surprisingly few dining chairs that look practical, comfortable, well-built, and interesting. This weekend's trip to the Catskills included a trip to Steve Heller's Fabulous Furniture. He has a thing for using '50s car parts in furniture, lighting, and sculpture. We came home with this lamp, which he appears to have beamed down from the future:

The design criterion for our cake was that it be taller than the bride. At seven tiers and 5'7", it was. After seeing a NYTimes article on his amazing custom car work (kitbashing a modern car to have '50s-style fins), mew0422 tracked down the creator's website. I finally got new skis, Blizzard Magnum 7.6 (170cm, 7.6cm under foot). They replace my venerable old K2s which will stay around for screeing.
