Log: "Amusing photos" (with Minkah)

Aug 26, 2008 17:28

Danilo wished these cute, fluffy animals hadn't gone crazy. If that was the case, then he wouldn't have to hurl them out of the way with telekinesis as he walked to his studio. It didn't occur to him that developing film at such a time was dangerous--he needed to get these pictures out of his camera now, or he would certainly forget. And he didn't ( Read more... )

Minkah gave a slow surveying glance around the open area as he climbed out of the window. Checking here and there, he dematerialized, shifting into the invisible form of spirits. Drifting along as he moved, he nevertheless avoided the animals that sprawled and patrolled along the grounds. Strange and disgusting things.

He paused for a moment in the middle of the courtyard, orienting himself to the new enviornment before heading confidently down the path towards the arts. His pactholder, who was secure and safe in the staff dormitories, had shown him there early on in their arrival. Materializing just outside of the opening, after checking to make sure there were no humans in sight, he had to step sideways as he missed avoiding a large furred green thing coming at him. Pushed down, the dog (though it reminded Minkah of northeastern sheep) the thing tried to bite him. . .only to be confused as his teeth seemed to slide right off Minkah's skin. Minkah moved his hand down to the dog and seemed to hurtle it off before picking himself off the ground and brushing himself off. He fingered his torn sleeve that revealed the small black words 'impervious, powerful strength' written on his arm.

The studio he found easily, the only one with a bright light shining through. He walked alone to the open door and pushed at the door with his hand.

Danilo was just getting ready for the film development process when he heard a tug at his door. He turned and saw, partly, the small form of a human, and smiled with relief. The kid had gotten here safely, after all.

Navigating his way through the photographs that hung on various parts of his studio's ceiling, he reached for the door and pushed it open, with a greeting to boot.

"Hey. Minkah, right?"

Minkah looked around the room a bit before coming inside. He came up to the other boy's mid-chest only, giving him even more of a childish appearance.

"Mm. You're Danilo." He walked over to where Danilo was standing and looked around again.

"No animals."

Dan laughed. "'No animals' is right." He paused for a short moment to wonder how smart this kid must have been to attend Countshire at such a young age. He refrained from patting Minkah's hair and led him inside, grabbing two stools nearby and offering the visitor a seat.

"Here," he said, gesturing to the stool. "Feel free to look around. Just give me a minute to organize my film. Tell me when you want to see the photos, yeah?"

Minkah let the head patting go (he got that alot) and climbed up onto the closer of the two stools. The stools were taller than usual, similar to bar stools and his legs dangled a little, not quite reaching the ground. Tucking his sleeve in to conceal the rip from the dog, he looked around at the bottle, tray, and hanger filled room.

"You said you had pretty pictures to look at."

He couldn't help it. Danilo laughed some more. "I do." The kid reminded him of his younger siblings when they were growing up--straightforward, blunt and demanding in that not-so-vicious way.

He squinted his eyes against the light and opened a cabinet above him, taking out a bundle of photos. The paper that covered them said lovebirds and a sloppily drawn heart next to it. He walked over a few steps and handed the bundle to Minkah.

"I hope these were worth your visit."

Minkah raised both hands up to receive the bundle of photos. He looked down at the heart and the sloppy writing.

"You have bad penmanship", he stated in a disapproving tone as he eyed Danilo. He shuffled open the packet, pulling at the ribbon that tied them together, pulling out the photos.

". . .there's a lot of boys." He tilted his head up to look at Danilo.

"Do you like boys?"

"I was never the one for writing," said he, not turning around. He went through his film carefully, putting them aside in separate spots one by one when he was finished with observing the pictures on each. Suddenly feeling his hair getting in his eyes, Danilo took the nearest rubber band and tied back the blonde hair in a natural fashion.

What made him turn around was Minkah's next comment. He looked at the other boy and raised an eyebrow.

"I'm afraid I don't swing that way," he answered. "Many boys that day seemed to be in love with each other, is all. There are girls somewhere in the pile, too, I think."

"Oh." Minkah shuffled the photos around a bit, pulling this one and that before picking out one and holding it up.

"Found one!" He called out with a face that belied the slightly more excited voice. He shook the picture before bringing it closer to look at.

"It looks like a girl, I think."

Danilo smiled, despite the oddity of the situation. It had been a while since he took photographs for fun--most of his photos have been related to some part of schoolwork or other projects.

"Yeah?" He decided to take a break from developing the film for now, and headed over to where Minkah was. Leaning down, he peeked at the photo. "That's a girl."

"Mm." Minkah pulled out another one after another, smaller hands still as he flashed them in front of Danilo.

"And this one?" Black haired head and blonde haired head bowed close to each other as they played "boy or girl" with some of the prettier- and uglier couples.

"You took a lot of pictures of other people. None of you?"

Danilo rubbed his chin. Some of the answers were easy, but some, not so much. "That's--a guy. He has long hair and everything, but his voice was way too low to be a girl's." He made a mental note to look at the people he took photos of more closely; perhaps that way, he could capture them better in the moment.

After a while, he stood up to stretch his back. "That's a good question." He closed his eyes. "I wasn't anything special that day. Not in love, for example."

"You didn't eat any of the candy?" Minkah put the picture back with the others, noting the blonde haired Danilo as being the cousin of one of the new pactholders.

His feet kicked a bit, the vans he wore looking big and cartoonish. His pactholder had helped him pick them out at the store, the old grandfatherly man laughing when Minkah had stubbornly refused all the other choices and settled on the pair with stars on the side, much to the dismay of the clerk. He looked up with big expectant eyes, waiting for an answer.

He quietly shook his head. "I just got to Countshire when all that candy stuff started happening."

He gave Minkah's moving feet a glance, and while looking up, happened to notice the boy's torn sleeve. Dan's eyes grew slightly wider with worry and suspicion.

Jutting his chin toward the sleeve's direction, he asked, "What happened?"

OOC: sleeping nao. XD I'll reply tomorrow afternoon!

Minkah looked up at Danilo, giving him a blank look. He fingered the sleeve, using his hand to block the words written but letting the other boy see that he was uncut, unbitten and unharmed. Nothing could break his skin or cut him- not for another 30 minutes at least, while he had the words written on his arm.

"I ripped it on something. Nothing important."

Huh. That was weird. The photography department was clean and known for the smoothness of its architecture. Danilo blinked, and guessed that one of those animals might have bitten Minkah--except there was no bruise and no blood whatsoever.

"You got off lucky," he commented. "Those things outside are vicious. Are you sure you're okay?"
