Apparently this entry wants to be about family and the internet

So interesting phenomenon once I friended a good chunk of my family on Facebook I got increasingly more irritated with it. Okay there's the fact that online that they turn into those crazy religious rebuplicans on the internet and I'm forced to literally sit on my hands to stop myself from either a) mocking them or b) crying from the unfairness of ( Read more... )

Ah ha ha.

I used to get lots and lots of those kind of right-wing, Xian-centric, rather hysterical emails from my mom. I'm finally getting through to her that i really do *not* want arm-flailing crap about omg!muslims!! in my inbox, and she's doing her best to remember not to send them to me.

If i were you, to be honest, i'd private message everyone you actually want to talk to on FB and tell them you are opening a new account with a different name. Don't give it, obviously, to your family. Then friend them with the new name, unfriend with the 'family' name, and you can just skim your family posts for any relevant news and skip all the garbage.

Or, just post endless links to Rachel Maddow and Bill Maher and Keith Olberman and never, ever reply to anything. :)

Since it's facebook, you can't ask to be 'out of the loop', as it were, without completely cutting them off, and that would be kinda lame.

That's all i got.

Yeah I just recieved an e-mail from an aunt warning about Obama's socialist government omg hide your children he's going to kill them with his socialist healthcare and then a FB message from my brother not understand how a Judeo-Christian book about family wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. *headdesk*

I love my family but sometimes...

I like the idea of a second FB account, if only because I would be lame to cut them off since our family is tight (hence why they can drive me so batty) but spread across the country and it's nice to have that contact. I'm not sure about the links because when I do such thinks my mother passively aggressively posts little sermons (complete with scripture) about what I just posted and it gets to me even more than her. XD

Thank you! You gave me a great suggestion I really really appreciate it. =D

Yay, i'm glad i could help! I really hate that kind of no-nothing ranting and sanctimoniousness. It does nothing but make me put up my hackles and dig in my heels.

I guess i'd just be so pleased that i was annoying people, i'd post links and things, but then, i rather like to annoy, especially when i know it's something that won't ultimately matter. My mom and i might debate stuff and get a little heated, but it won't make us not friends or anything, so i can blow off a lot of it.

YOu could just.....disprove every single thing they say. Heeee.

Or, yeah, just ignore, make posts about the weather and your day and have your 'real fb' be for things that actually matter that *don't* make you have fights with your family.

Good luck!
