Year 85; Snake
[Month 4, Day 14] Azula is born to Prince Ozai and Princess Ursa. (Specific date is fanon).
Year 95; Rabbit
Fire Lord Azulon passes away; Ozai takes up the throne while his brother Iroh is returning from the failed siege of Ba Sing Se.
Princess Ursa disappears the night Azulon dies, before Ozai can be named Fire Lord.
Year 99; Ram
[Before Winter Solstice but late in the year] The Avatar wakes up after 100 years of suspended animation.
Year 100; Monkey
Azula begins her search for her brother and uncle.
Omashu falls to the Fire Nation and is renamed New Ozai.
Azula, Mai and Ty Lee takes control of Ba Sing Se by posing as Kyoshi Warriors.
[Month 8, Day 1] Day of Black Sun; a solar eclipse leaves firebenders powerless for eight minutes; Azula distracts the Avatar and his friends while the Fire Lord remains safe.

World
In the Avatar world, the summer and winter solstices seem to be global events. Since that really doesn't make much sense on Earth - the northern hemisphere's winter solstice is the southern hemisphere's summer solstice and vice versa - that most likely means the Avatar world's planet rotational axis is perpendicular to its orbital plane. However, the presence of solstices at all means the days vary in length. That happens on Earth because our rotational axis is on a tilt. The logical way for it to happen in the Avatar world is for their planet to have an orbit that does not have the Sun at the center. This is easily remedied by having another star close enough to have a gravitational pull on the Avatar planet, but not close enough to pull the planet into its orbit.
This basically means that the Avatar world is not a variation on Earth, but its own planet in its own imaginary solar system. It also means that the solstices are caused by the planet's physical proximity to their Sun. It might only be a small difference, but it's enough to change the length of the days. So on the longest day of the year, firebenders have a longer exposure to the Sun, their source of power.
