And so the online digital record of my life gets updated again.
I got a job! I'm the Property Master on a made-for-TV movie called "Four," produced by
Insight Entertainment. It's a sappy film about a guy and how all the women in his life get breast cancer. I can't say it's much of a story, after the second person gets boob cancer it just makes you think, "ah geeze, another one? This is getting predictable..." and the fourth person who gets it, you just slap your forehead... at least give her another form of cancer to liven things up a bit! Luckily, the story doesn't affect me. It's still some really good pay for about 40 days of work. Should be enough to get me out of debt (at least my >$5000 credit card bill). This is all pretty exciting for me-- I'm the property master on a feature film! There's certainly a learning curve though, as in things that are done differently on this production than any of the other ones I've worked on. This will also be the first time that it won't just be me on my own, there will be an on-set props person, and an assistant props person working with/for me. I think I've got it all handled though; the only difficult things will be some time jumps where we go back as far as the 70's, some food/eating scenes including a holiday dinner, and managing continuity throughout the whole film (which is not my forté) .
Bought a
digital camera (my first) and a new
photo printer that can print onto DVDs and CDs as well. Spent a lot of money in one night, but I justified it because I needed those things for my new job, and the 4 extra days of work that I got at the last minute was enough to pay for it all. Expect to see some more photos posted. I spent a bit more than I needed to because I wanted to get a camera that had full manual control for when I need it... I don't know much about Casio though, but so far it seems like a good camera.
I had my 3rd horseback riding lesson yesterday. My legs were so sore after that I felt unsafe driving home. I learn a little more each time I go, but the biggest obstacle is my level of fitness and flexibility. I find it very difficult to hold my legs in the correct position. Hopefully each time I go I'll get a little bit better at it and it'll get easier for me. I had the horse at a trot yesterday with the reigns in one hand, which is important so that I can shoot the indians with my six-shooter, and lasso cattle with the other hand.
I've been pretty busy for the past few weeks too. I got into
ACFC and I worked as props master on a kickstart film (where I got the recommendation for the feature from) and another short film that lead to 3 days working for a CBS/History channel show called "Beyond Top Secret"--what a gong show that was. The entire art department, which was me and another guy had one day of prep to do a weeks worth of work. The shoot had a first AD, but she wasn't doing the duties of one. Know one knew what was going on, and the director kept changing his mind. It was very disorganised. The production quality was also very low. I've used more lights and equipment on some of my one minute films than was used on this shoot. I've yet to be paid for it too! I even had my radiator break on me while driving there. I managed to Macgyver it to get me to the highway exit, but not much farther. I was pretty much a block from set. I had to get towed home, and spend almost $200 for a new radiator, which was almost as much as I earned that weekend.
