I won my case. Mad Science was pretty much forced to pay me what I was asking for. Today was just mediation, but if my former boss decided to take it to the next step, where a formal decision would be made, he'd risk being fined $500 if he was found to be in breech of the Employment Standards act in any way, which he pretty much was. On the downside, I still don't have a job.
I returned some strange Japanese movies that I rented for a class project. I returned them late and had to pay a $6 fine, but they gave me a free pass to tonight's preview of "The Producers." What a stupid movie. The original was by all accounts great. The Broadway musical is supposed to be good too, but it really didn't translate well into film. I wanted to punch Matthew Broderick for his acting. It felt like bad improv, where characters are over the top in every way, it might work on the stage, but it didn't on the screen. There was slapstick humour that just felt awkward, like maybe if I were 6 it would be funny... Even Will Ferrel was disappointing, and I love Will Ferrel. Sure, there were funny bits, but there were a lot more bits that you could tell were trying to be funny and should have been cut. If you like musicals, you're 6 years old, or you're a dumbass you will probably like the movie. The one redeeming thing was that it screwed the idiots who rush out of the theatre when the credits start out of seeing some added goodies during and after the credits.
And now back to editing a children's play. Over 2 hours. 2 cameras. 6 tapes. I have about an eighth of the hard drive space I need, so I'm doing it in chunks. A long night and a lot of work awaits me tomorrow.
