Title: Into One hour, 3 of ?
Rating: PG-13 to be safe.
Warnings: A bit of language. It's goddamn short?
Notes: Part of the Dream a Little Dream of Me Series. It's been entirely too long since I posted last part (getting awfully sick and then going back home for a month for the Holidays didn't help any). I apologize for that and for the shortness of this part, but it's better than nothing I guess X3;
Enjoy?

“Tell me where to go!” he barks, one hand on the wheel and the other holding the badge close to his face.
“Kevin, calm down!” Helen barks back. “Getting snappy with me is not going to get us there faster!”
Kevin grinds his teeth down, gripping the wheel tighter and stepping a bit more heavily on the accelerator. He forces a sigh out and tries to rein in his anger. “How much time ahead of us are they?”
A long, long pause.
Kevin's insides knot with trepidation. “Helen,” he presses.
“Four hours...” she whispers.
“What?!”
“I fell asleep, okay?!” she bits out. “We've been trying to get these guys for weeks, and I fell asleep waiting for the last searching sweep's results. Manny must've found me asleep and decided to take off; you know how he is, so give me a break!”
Kevin sighs again. “Shit,” he curses. “I guess it's a lucky thing Pierce returned early,” he says, the closest he is to an outright apology right now, “They would've had eight hours, instead.”
“I guess...” Helen says, subdued.
“Don't beat yourself over it, Helen,” Kevin says to her, not liking the sudden quietness in her voice. “Beat Manny's ass instead, when we find them; I'll take care of kicking Ben's.”
“You will try, you mean,” she snorts in disbelief, but the smile is clear in her voice.
“Shut up!” he mock growls, “I can take him on just fine.”
“Whatever you say, Kev,” she chuckles; Kevin is glad she doesn't sound so down anymore, “Whatever you say.”
Gwen is waiting outside when Cooper arrives. She feels a pang in her chest when she realizes it's not Kevin, but not because she was expecting him and he hadn't been the one to show up. No, the pang she felt had not been regret, or anger, or simple disappointment: it had been guilt.
She gathers her wits about her, and makes a decision. They have a long trip ahead of them after all, and Gwen owes Cooper the most sincere apology she's able to give.
Kevin catches up with Helen and Pierce first, and they decide it's better to keep going ahead instead of waiting for Gwen and Cooper to catch up with them. When they arrive at the place it's obvious Manny and Ben had been there to mess things up, but everything is a little too quiet in Kevin's opinion; Helen and Pierce think so too.
There's no time for infiltration, not when it's been hours, so Kevin places his hands on the hood of his Baby and lets the metal encase his body.
After a shared look, Kevin charges at the closest wall, bracing himself for the impact and growling fiercely when feeling the wall give under the assault.
The warehouse is a mess, a complete wreck of debris and scorch marks, broken glass and still smoking, unidentifiable, ruined machinery. It’s also completely empty; still and silent, and things have clearly gone pretty wrong.
“Shit!” Kevin curses. “Let’s go!” he urges, dreading what his instincts are telling him is hugely possible to have happened. He sprints through the, now painfully obviously, abandoned warehouse, until he reaches the back of the place, an almost empty room that looks hastily cleared.
There are six of the little shrew-lizard-looking Dromedites ready to take off with one of the modified chambers.
With a roar, Kevin charges at them, but the Dromedite are smugglers, not fighters, and they scamper off, not as quickly as a Kineceleran, but Helen is quite preoccupied by other things, Kevin realizes, when he hears her worried: “Manny!”.
Manny is, indeed, inside the abandoned chamber. The only chamber in sight.
Kevin curses again; a vehement, emphatic: “Fuck!” and runs in the direction of the escaping Dromedite. “Wait for Coop and Gwen and tell Gwen to track me,” he yells, “Coop knows how to get Manny off that thing!” and he’s gone.
