Fandom Snowflake Challenge - Day 7

Jan 14, 2022 14:34

I decided to skip over the prompts for days 5 and 6 since the first was focusing on "an idea you wish you had the time / talent / energy to do," which just feels counterproductive to me and the second was about creating something and I have enough creative projects as it is without adding another right now. (^^)"

So! This prompt is about fandom resources, spaces, and communities I enjoy or find useful. In past years I think I talked a bit about old LiveJournal communities and things of that nature and the Wayback Machine, which is always an excellent resource for preserving old fannish material. Right now I'm obsessing over the Thief series, so I figure I'll talk about cool resources for that. Also, I just finished the first game for the second time, so expect a post about that once I've collected my thoughts.

With all that out of the way, some neat Thief resources/sites I've stumbled across:

Lytha.com - Has all kinds of thoughts on the first two games and she also conducted a survey in 1999 to see which levels people liked most. For some reason, people did not enjoy the supernatural levels as much, and I have to agree with Lytha: I do not understand. I love the supernatural element to this game. :0

Through the Looking Glass forum - They've pretty much covered any question you could possibly have about Thief. Also covers TTLG's other games, such as System Shock. There are also resources here about making Thief mods, and I'd really like to try making a level or two at some point.

Thief: The Circle - Honestly this has everything you could possibly want out of a fan site. It even has several links to fanfiction (referred to as novels and short stories), which I'll have to check out at some point. It also has a pretty good list of links.

Thief: The Dark Project Wiki - Lots of helpful things here including some good guides.

Anyway, on to Thief 2!
