For the last three days I've really been obsessing over Good Omens. Today I have finally made a return to the previous obsession, Thief: Gold because I am nothing if not consistent. First, let's talk about Good Omens.
I have consumed... an alarming amount of fic for it of late. It has been lots of fun, and some of you have suggested even more, which I really appreciate! I'm now rereading the book and having a good time considering the differences in portrayal and how sometimes it feels very different and other times I can see exactly how we got from point A to point B. Most of the time it's the latter.
Anyway, throughout all this Good Omens pondering, I have reached a not-very-important conclusion: Crowley should have kept the longer hair. Mostly because then he looks less like the Tenth Doctor, but also because I think that is a cooler look and Crowley is all about maintaining the rule of cool. (Apologies to David Tennant; your hair is very cool, but it's not quite "Crowley cool" it is "Doctor cool." Or something.) As you can see in this icon from the promotional poster, Crowley has the long hair again, which means season two will, bare minimum, have flashbacks to that era of their relationship. Or he grows it out, one or the other. This is definitely the most important takeaway we can have from the season two teasers. Also, and somehow I totally missed this for ages, there's supposed to be a season three! Haven't even seen season two, but I am so ready for this. :D
Most likely I will continue to dig through AO3 for more fic, both for the book and the show. This is such a large fanbase that it will take some time before I exhaust the options, which is an interesting change of pace. I usually wind up spending my time in smaller fanbases, which means I'm generally thinking more in terms of what I can make that I want to see rather than already having a ton of stuff to look through. I still have some fic ideas for Good Omens, though.
Moving on to Thief, I am making very good progress! I just wrapped up "The Haunted Cathedral," which is an amusing title because you never make your way into the cathedral on account of it being locked beyond all reason. Counting the mission I'm currently on, "The Mage Towers," I have eight more missions. We are... only halfway through this game. XD I know it took 65 hours the first time I played this thing (give or take seeing as I sometimes wander off during my gaming sessions...), but I thought I might be a little faster the second.
Let's see... Doing some calculations it looks like each mission took about four hours last time (sounds about right) and I think the missions are taking more around two this time, so! I have actually improved immensely if this is correct even though it's now on expert difficulty. :0 Not that I'm necessarily in a rush to finish the game, but it is fun to keep track.
Regardless, I have said I would share some screenshots and I have finally uploaded some, so behold my adventures! First up is "The Sword."
While visually this hallway is already cool, my favorite part is that you can hear soft laughter while you walk through it. Also, it leads to outer space, essentially.
A door that opens to nothing but an image of The Green Man.
One thing I really like are all the intense patterns and crooked windows of this level. I would love to see a house like this. :D
Here's a section of the garden, which is actually very extensive.
And that is the magic sword we were sent to steal! It was at the top of the mansion as you might expect, but to get to the top of the mansion you have to go through a forest that's in the middle of the mansion.
These next ones are from the mission I just finished:
Garrett is a pretty superstitious guy, so we paid our respects here at the Watchman's Grave for good luck. Every little bit helps.
Ahh, look at all those books. This seems like a good spot to relax. Alternatively, a good spot to decide how you're going to hide a ton of keys, thus making Garrett go all over the world map to find them.
I encountered an odd glitch while in this level. A zombie completely froze and all the burricks were trying to kill it. I decided to simply take advantage of this glitch and took out all the burricks and spiders in the area. Honestly, it's nice to be able to run around after you've cleared the space. I also restored all the power, and I like to think this really alarmed any villagers who still live near this section. The abandoned, haunted old section of the city is suddenly completely lit up as if someone is living there?! Pretty creepy.
I'm looking forward to tackling The Mage Towers. I remember there was a cool section where the statues talk to you and predict your fate, and I want to see if this holds true for the third game when I get there. It's also one of the few times you have to actively avoid mages in the game, so that's neat, too.
