I saw "300" Tuesday night which was sponsored by a local mag. I have been a Spartan movie fan since I saw the last 5 minutes old version of this movie back in the late 70's called "300 Spartans". I bought that movie on DVD a couple of years ago when it came out.
The movie over does it with special effects, which would prolly be ok with the gamer and pro wrestling crowd. It was too much for me.
Xerses appears to be a big black transvestite with tons of gold jewelry in this version and the eyeliner makeup is notable on most of the actors a-la-johnny depp pirate..
I was dissappointed that the Arcadians, who fought along side the Spartans, were portrayed as less elegant fighters. In the old version, they fought as well and had cool uniforms.
I'm all for violence, limbs flying, blood squirting, etc., but the fight scene film speed changes felt like I was changing car gears from 1 to 6 and back to one again, which would have been okay the first couple of times, but after that was excessive. You'll see what I mean.
