Old Friends
I had this friend in highschool. We were very close, especially my junior and senior year. We slept over each others houses, talked about boys, college, sex, everything. I trusted her, I loved her.
We go to college. We talk often freshman year. Not quite as often sophmore year, but set aside time every break to see each other and email frequently.
She shows me some of her writing, and I show her some of mine.
Then all the sudden, almost nothing. A few texts, facebook posts.
I come home a few times last summer post graduation. I call every time I am home. No response.
I email, I facebook.
My parents are moving from NJ to Florida at the end of september. I probably have one last trip back to hillsborough to say good bye to everything- the highschool, applebees, the bike paths behind my house. I wish she would answer my messages so I can say good bye to her. Maybe have an answer for the lack of communication, the heart wrenching silence. Maybe I could take that picture of us from prom down, just put it away in that box with all the other pictures its no longer important ot see every day.
