I had the pleasure of 'drawing' for Zinnith’s
Hooke’s Law in the
sgabigbang
This is the first time I’ve tried anything like this. I liked the construction part of the ‘creation’ (I hesitate to use the word drawing). I’d read Zinnith’s story and I did some outside reading and was intrigued by the equations which underlie Hooke’s Law. Zinnith’s choice of title was perfect for a story which focuses on John’s PTSD under stress and strain. I got to thinking about what I wanted to draw and I was scribbling away and suddenly realised that I had a montage of Rodney’s thought processes which I kind of liked.
In Rodney’s mathematical brain k = ∞ when describing their relationship.
So resources:
1. Heh - that’s my favourite old, pair of glasses. They’re completely unfashionable now and you can’t get them anywhere. Available glasses are always the ‘sexy’, angular, narrow European style. I can’t get my prescription put in this pair because they’re too worn;
2. Books - Biostatistics by Zar; Analysing Ecological Data by Zuur; R coding print out from the R webpages; and Beowulf (which seemed really, really appropriate for this story as John’s battles three monsters - homophobia; stalkers and his own self);
3. graduation congratulations mug - you just know Rodney would drink from one, and
4. a picture snagged from somewhere on the web. I can’t remember where *hangs head*
One of the things I like about the Entangled Particles 'verse is that their relationship feels real - that inherent comfort in a strong relationship (even under stress and strain) is palpable and *Rodney’s* the strong one. I hope that there’s another one on the horizon in this ‘verse.
Resources:
1. I snagged the certificate from the web - it’s a copy of a real Ottawa University certificate tweaked to read Meredith Rodney McKay;
2. A picture of John from Gateworld behind-the-scenes, the perfect angle of his neck which begged to be drawn;
3. John’s posture was inspired by a pic of Sam Winchester sprawling, and
4.
bluespirit_star and
leyna55 helped me with pictures of Rodney.
