badinage (bad-NAHZH BAD-nahzh) noun

Light, playful remarks; banter.

[From French badinage, from badiner (to banter).]

It was a strange weekend. I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm not sure what to do. I know what I ought to do, and I find it ironic that the strength I so vehemently counsel to others eludes me in this matter. But I forget, sometimes, in my advice to take into account the softness with which one's regard can be clouded. And when that softness makes my own vision hazy, I'm at a loss, and I stand shaky and infirm.

In a situation like this, what is right? Hurting someone isn't right. Putting up with discomfort isn't right.

I'm still not sleeping. I wonder why?

If you wouldn't write it and sign it, don't say it. -Earl Wilson
