Today is not really going as planned.
I was leaving the house to go to work and slipped on black ice. In the slide, my right ankle went at a weird angle and I fell onto it. I had to call Alex in the house to come try and pick me up off the pavement, since I was in such pain. Ambulance call ensued, as well as my first trip being admitted into the E-room.
X-rays showed that I had broken my ankle in 2 places and dislocated it to boot. So I got lots of lovely drugs and a splint up to my knee. I'm on crutches as of this moment, but I'm in enough pain that walking isn't high on my list of priorities. Stairs are super fun, and of course both bathrooms are up a flight of stairs.
Family is coming over tomorrow for Christmas dinner, which is now being cooked by Alex as I convalesce on the couch. Friday morning at 7am is my surgery to put pins and plates in my ankle to fix the bones. Then 8 weeks of crutches and eventually physical therapy.
My only real problem is that I can't drive with this injury. So we're going to have to figure out a way to get back and forth to work while I'm on crutches. I might end up living at Dad's for a while, which should be amusing.
The moral of the story: Be careful out there guys. Northeastern winters are fun if you are a masochist.
And a very Merry Christmas to you all.
