Right, at the end of last week I had a bunch of highly textured pattern pieces. At the end of this week I have a bodice which is possibly recognasable as Elphaba in progress of being made. What I have done:
Overlocked each bodice panel IN BLACK (involved working at home on my own machine threaded in black, as all the ones at college are in white)
Base bodice panels sewn up (there's the upper panels in a different tecture which will be piped abd put on separately)
Extra material for cloak and ribbon for bodice, and shiny stuff for frills bought
Frills constructed on strips of drille, to be mounted under the upper panels once they're piped
Cloak hung on strips of drille in V shape (Cloak is detachable, will attach by poppers hidden under frill)
Sleeves cut and pinned onto bodice
"To Do" lists, budget written, fabric samples assembled, for written submission

To do next week:
Get reference photos printed out as photos at Tesco
Texture sleeves same as upper bodice
attach sleeves
piping on everything
cut collar on stand, texture, attach.
neaten cloak, put on attachments
attach upper panels to bodice inc frill
put in fastenings on bodice
make up basic skirt
I have err... 10 days to do this. Apart from the piping, they're all quick little jobs. Well, not the skirt, but it'll be a basic skirt, no decoration to speak of... :( I'll come back to it as I'm really rather pleased with how this is coming out!
Bodice sewn up. I think the front matches the back panels pretty well, given different fabrics were used?
Cloak pinned in place to see how it hangs
REALLY pleased with the frills - they make it begin to be recognisable! Add in the sleeves, and yes - it's half a costume! Not just bits of fabric!
Giving an idea of the final effect - the sleeves will be textured as the top panels. The frills will spring from the edge of the panels, and the cloak fastenings will be hidden under the frills when the cloak is not being worn. Cloak will detach BEFORE trying to take off the bodice... centre back fastening. Cloak one piece.
