I turned 24!

This past Saturday, January 15th, I turned 24 years old (along with my brothers Brett and Brad). I celebrated on Friday and Saturday and I'll also celebrate with my Dad and Bradly tonight.

On Friday, Roy and I went shopping. Eeee! I was so excited about this. I love shopping....um, a lot.
I stopped by Maya Star on South Congress first and ended up finding a lot of beautiful items there. I got 4 dresses (mostly short, some casual, some semi-casual, and some fancier, all on sale), one wide gray belt, one silver necklace with a tiny spoon charm, and one jeweled flower headband. From there we went to Anthropologie to look at shoes and I was able to use the gift card I got for xmas from Brett.
I bought two pairs of Seychelles high-heeled shoes on sale.
From there we went to the mall to redeem Roy's Sephora cologne gift card. Got him this 1 Million Cologne by Paco Rabanne that smells really yummy. I also got some free make-up stuff for my birthday from Sephora (I have a Beauty Insider card, probably terrible because they give me discounts I take them up on all the time, but I do buy all my make-up there now) and I got myself a Hello Kitty make-up palette from their new Sephora line. So cute!
Then I bought Chik-Fil-A for lunch and was feeling on cloud 9.

On our way home we stopped at Hobby Lobby so I could run in and buy fake flowers for the Mucha-style hair I planned to do on Saturday night. It cost only $10 for many pretty stems.

From there we dashed home to take care of pups, and then headed to the Hideout to perform in the 8 and 10pm shows. Pick Your Own Path at 8pm was super fun and then we had a PGraph show in the Spectacle at 10pm to a smaller but really enthusiastic audience. We got the words "God", "Guilt" and "Mama" from a book (our favorite way of taking a suggestion) and did a narrative about two gay married men (Kareem and Roy) and their two foster kids (Val and I). It was so cute and explored some slightly taboo subject matter (one of the girls had written 'God Hates Fags' on the front driveway and that's how the show started out). It was mostly light-hearted but I think we did a good job of playing against stereotype. We created this world that by the end of the show I knew I would miss playing in. And everyone's characters were so fun to watch!
I love when that happens in improv!

After the show we headed to the 24 Diner, where, coincidentally, I turned 24 at the stroke of midnight.

On Saturday I got up early to go to Samar and Ben's wedding. It was cloudy and rainy but that didn't stop the wedding at all. It was indoors with lots of windows to let light in. The ceremony had many cute moments and I really liked seeing Samar and Ben's vows and pledges to each other. They're great together! I also got to hang out with old high school friends Meg, Alisha, and Aminya, and had a fantastically fun time talking and joking with them. Nice how comfortable I felt even though I don't see them so frequently these days. Oh yeah, and Leah Muse was there to photograph the wedding and it was fun teasing and talking to her.

From there we sped back home from the Lake Travis Hill Country and I put together some more indie music play lists for Austin Secrets and then started putting together my outfit for the night.

My Mucha-like hair style. Made in about 30-40 min?

And hey, my hair dreams worked out pretty well! First I twisted my hair into a bunch of...how do I explain it, looped curls pinned to my head? Large pin curls? I let a few tendrils hang down. And then I began to cut the flower stems with wire cutters and pin and clip them into the curls with little bear claw clips I bought the night before.

The rest of my evening I spent at the Melting Pot (with Kareem, Curtis, and Amy), drinking at Peche with more friends, and stopping by the last hour of the Courtney's Nomad Bar hang out where I saw tons more friends. The Melting Pot had a fantastic French-themed big night out menu and was amazingly delicious, as always. The company was delightful! I really had a great time and we were there for over two hours.
Side note - Amy gave a hilarious and cute handmade book and Curtis got me an art memoir book and a Girls Generation poster (which is the best and so awesome and wow!). Later at Peche Ruby Leigh Young gave me a present as well, a silver bow ring that is beautiful and just the right amount of chunky and shiny, and it fits!
I was not expecting these presents and they were all so thoughtful! Yay for friends!

By the time I got home at around 2:30am I had had seven drinks that night. I was pleasantly plastered and Roy made me a PB&J sandwich before I fell happily into bed and fell asleep instantly. It was wonderful.

Turning 24 is exciting and maybe the tiniest bit scary. To me, 24 is of course still a very youthful age, but also moving into an era of more responsibility and expectations. So many great things on the horizon for this year, with more opportunities popping up every week (seriously, I'll tell you more later!).
I'm a lucky girl.
