Unfortunately I have nothing to report, sewing wise, because although I wanted to get my Spencer finished this weekend Sat was not a good day for me health-wise, so I was not motivated to get it done.
On Friday though I did some shopping and am kind of excited about it. I'm on this Regency kick and so pretty much everything I got is for that. I'm going to have a whole wardrobe when I'm done! First I found two shawls to use with my Regency costumes, one for day wear, it's a nice green and tan with pretty woven patterns and the other is a beautiful blue and tan silk shawl for evening.
I also went to the fabric store and bought some tan cotton velvet (for a jacket or pellise or something, I haven't decided yet), 5 yards of very fine white cotton muslin for a round gown, some pretty purple trim embroidered with silver beads for an evening dress and more fake fur since they had a better selection than Joanns (and it was WAY cheaper so now I'm thinking about returning the other stuff). Oh I also got some lace to go on the Victorian corset I'm planning to make at Christmas. I just got my Laughing Moon Silverado pattern in the mail this week! I can't wait to get started on that! I also got more ribbons for trimming a straw bonnet in black white and pink. Whew! I think that's all at least costume wise, it was a pretty good shopping day! The only thing I didn't find was shoes, but I have a few options in my closet already.
So when I'm all done with all my Regency projects (who knows when that will be, hopefully soon) here's what I'll have:
Brown Spencer
Purple Day Dress
Tan/Purple Stovepipe Bonnet
White Round Gown
White Silk Evening Gown with purple trim (need to get silk, color is open)
Black Velvet Spencer (made from a thrifted dress - info below)
Black and Pink Straw Bonnett
Tan Velvet Pelise or cape?
Large Brown Fur Muff
Green Day Shawl
Blue Evening Shawl
I'd also like to make a longer corded Regency corset
Here's what I already have:
Short Regency Stays
Chemise
Yellow Day Dress with White Overdress
all from the Simplicity versions of the Sense & Sensibility Patterns.
After that I think I can safely move on to Victorian! {And then maybe get back to more 18th cent.} I have lots of plans for Victorian, but maybe I'll post about that another time.
I don't know if I mentioned before but I bought a dress at a thrift store that with just a little cutting and fixing could be a great spencer (and I'll use part of the leftover fabric on a bonnet)! I don't have to change the sleeves at all, I only have to remove the zipper from the back (and sew it up), then cut the front open, add a standing collar and frog closures, remove the skirt and finish the bottom, and there we go! It's got some great pintucking details already on the bodice and was already an empire waist! I'll have to try to get a better picture of it, I need a flash camera to pick up the detail in my room...
Anyway, those are my plans for now, hopefully I can get it all done soon. If I do, I might have a hard time deciding on what to wear to the Regency Tea! I'm glad it's a long holiday weekend coming up so I can get lots done!
plans,
