[Commentary] On Male Genital Mutilation

Dec 05, 2005 11:55

It seems odd but I have to laugh when I hear someone get hysterical about female genital mutilation happening in the world. I laugh not out of any sick sense of humor or misogyny, but rather at the hypocrisy of these individuals. They cry about women in far off countries having the clitoris forcibly removed but yet they are strangely silent, and in ( Read more... )

  1. male circumcision doesn't prevent guys from enjoying sex; that's a HUGE difference between male and female circumcision
  2. there are studies that show that women (in our culture) find circumcized penes more sexually attractive, and that this may be part of the reason mothers tend to choose cicumcision for their male babies despite the lack of medical justification. If that's the case.... just think of it was "Baby's First Plastic Surgery". ;-)

There's tons of justification, what's lacking is a flat-out, one way or the other, yes or no from the medical community. There's nothing wrong with either circumsized or non-circumsized boys, and there are good reasons for both. And there's medical standing to back both up ( ... )

Clitoris, like foreskin, just assists in the achievement of an orgasm but it is not a prerequisite. Otherwise gay men would not be able to cum merely from getting fucked in the ass like some do.

Pam Jacobs put it best... the biggest sexual organ in the body is the brain.

all it does is lessen what women go through in those countries, and nothing gets done about it.

No, because getting female genital mutilation to end requires various cultures to shift those practices. A lot of countries where the practice occurs have outlawed it already. That is infinitely more difficult than persuading a profession to stop a practice.

Jon, you're full of shit. I can't discuss this with you anymore. I can't believe you are comparing cutting off the fingernail to cutting off the tip of the finger. And I bet Pam Jacobs would cringe if she knew you were using her to justify mutilating the female body in this way.

No, I am not full of shit. You stated that removal of the clitoris precludes sexual enjoyment by women and there is research that states opposite. Three women profiled in the article here each had their clitoris, labia minora, and part of the labia majora removed and then their vaginas were sewn shut save a small hole until after they were married and their husband "broke the seal" with his penis.

In each case after marrying a man they loved and who treated them right they somehow managed to get orgasms and have pretty normal sex lives.

And I did not quote Pam Jacobs to "justify mutilating the female body" because in no place in this post or comments I said it was right. I said it was wrong across the board regardless of what anatomy is between your legs.

so because you disagree with circumcision because you're comparing apples to oranges, you're going to draw all these faulty lines between male and female genitalia? Go back to your basic anatomy and research what the female labia minora and majora form into when there's one of those evil male chromosomes present, and compare instances when those circumcisions are the same. THEN you won't be comparing apples to oranges.

In the meantime, you are no longer a friend of mine.

You can have that view. But tell me what is the difference between someone mutilating a penis and someone mutilating a vagina other than the obvious anatomical differences? None. Someone is still being mutilated. The reasons for it and the effects after either procedure are moot in comparing them because it should not be happening in the first place.

This kind of shit just happens to women a lot more than men because men somehow got it in their heads that they are superior to women. Foot binding in China would be another example.

In the meantime, you are no longer a friend of mine.

I am sorry you feel that way.

"I see this as yet another attempt by (men) to feel like something they might experience is on the same lines as what the women experience."
I agree... it definitely has the tenor of "Well, gee, girls, us guys have to it bad toooooo!! "

LOL

Personally, I think it's hilarious when circumcized guys complain about the fact that they've been circumcised, just because they read somewhere that they might get more sexual stimulation if they hadn't been. Like what.... they don't enjoy sex enough as it is? Here's a tip: if you're not enjoying sex, chances are there are other factors playing a larger role in that than your circumcision. LOL

Oh I know! Wah wah wah... I haven't come across a guy yet who hasn't reacted favorably to some well-placed carresses, i'm *sure* they enjoyed it!

It's more like "Unless there us a specific medical need for it, it does not need to be done across the board whether the lucky recipient has a penis or a vagina."

Why not?

I love the way my dick looks. I wouldn't want it any different.

I also had my wisdom teeth taken out, even though they were coming in completely straight, and weren't crowding my other teeth. Why did I have them removed? Partly because it reduced my chances of getting cavities way in the back of my mouth, but mostly because those damn teeth just aren't necessary.

It's all about choice though. You could choose to do those things at any time in your life pretty much though. If you like your dick being cut, what is to stop you from getting a circumcision when you're 18?

LOL. Um.... the fact that I'd rather not remember it?

I don't remember being circumcized. And although I like to consider myself open-minded, I have to be honest: if anyone who was circumcized as a newborn tells me that they remember it, then I'll think they are lying.

Are there any studies that speak to whether adult penile circumcision is more or less dangerous than infant penile circumcision? And by dangerous, I'm referring to risks of medical complication, not things like supposed "psychological trauma."

Maybe not on a cognitive level, but one anti-circumcision site mentions a correlation between boys who had no anesthetic during circumcision and the level of pain experience in other medical procedures like innoculations.
