Every single time Pat Robertson opens his big mouth about morality, he always ends up making himself look like a schizophrenic moron. His
latest tirade says Hurricane Katrina was a result of Ellen Degeneres being selected as the host of the Emmy awards. No, I am not joking. Degeneres is from New Orleans so Robertson asked "Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres' hometown?"
I think Pat Robertson just wants to fuck Ellen because he seems so obsessively interested in her. He says the debut of her show in September, 2003, resulted in Iraqi insurgents getting a foothold on their resistance to the US invasion. He also says her selection to host the 2001 Emmy awards was part of what caused the September 11th attack on New York. Of course he blames gays, abortionists, feminists, non-Christians and other groups that do not adhere to his bland, homogenized notion of reality.
You know, I could pull my hair out trying to wrap my brain around this guy's concept of reality. But the fact of the matter is Pat Robertson is an American version of Osama bin Ladin... except bin Ladin has a lot better grip on reality and obviously has more intelligence than Robertson. I saw this because Robertson is a very small man who lacks any ability to think globally. If God was going to direct punishment of the wicked, you would think he would select bigger targets. For example wiping out the Middle East. If you wanted to keep it in the US borders, Las Vegas comes to mind rather quickly. In blaming the selection of Ellen for the world's problems, you would think that God would strike at the people who made the decision. Since God apparently controls anti-US terrorists, why did he not have Kim Jung Il press a button and wipe LA off the map? And another point, if God was directing this, why would he have such bad aim? Or if he intended to cause a wider track of devastation, why would he hit the conservative south?
I feel really bad for ABC right now though. Since they own the Family Channel they have been taken a lot of heat in the past because the network shows Robertson's The 700 Cult... er I mean Club. Unfortunately they will continue to do so because ABC cannot pull the program even though they have implied that they would love to. The Family Channel was created by Robertson whose Christian Broadcasting company later sold to Fox. As I understand it, in the sale agreement is a clause that the network must continue to show The 700 Cult and the clause must be perpetuated in any further sales agreement. I imagine that BSoA v Dale would allow that clause to be nullified but ABC probably does not want to take the chance.
As much as I would love for Pat Robertson to simply shut up, I hope he keeps talking. Simply because he makes these outlandish and completely stupid statements. He calls for assassinations and other such bullshit that each statement erodes his mainstream credibility more and more. Of course there will always be his branch of the American Taliban that will rabidly follow him but they will be less and less credible as well.
