March! Oops, April

As was just pointed out to me, gently, by Ed Abbott. I have not updated my journal for some time. I would like to think that I have been too busy living life, to write about it. But this is not necessarily the case.

Work is going well and still pretty full on. I had my performance appraisal the other day which went really well. It was over in like 4 minutes, so it can't be bad. This week has been enormous. We've had 360 kids a camp and things have just been so busy. Yesterday we've had little ones arrive, from a not so nice area and we were prepared for them to be a little ferral. As it turns out they are so respectful and pleasant and actually a lot of fun. I did their orientation yesterday and showed them around and one of the girls said she wanted me to be their instructor because she thought I was pretty. Kids are so funny.

Greg's new job is going well. I was supposed to go out and ride there last week, but we don't have a float and my friend who was going to take me bailed. So we couldn't get the horses there. It has prompted us to consider buying our own float, especially if we are going to have opportunities to ride there, and it sounds like we will.

The venue is stunning. Beautiful cross country courses, and huge hacking and dressage arenas. Not that dressge interests me at all, but that's ok. I would love to get out there. Greg is convinced he should be allowed to take Indi but I'm not so sure yet. We took them out for a bit of a ride last week and Toby is pretty perfect but Indi was a little anxious. He doesn't like Toby being in front but he is not really confident enough to lead either. So weird. Anyway Indiana nearly took Greg over the jumps in the yard, and Toby decided he would like to round up the sheep. God I love having a western horse.

In terms of the job itself, Greg loves it. He says it's really different, more relaxed and the people are really nice. He's home a lot more which is also nice.

So this is random! Steve Anderson and his wife Michelle came to stay with us last week. We spent 2 days showing them around out our way before they headed back to the beach to meet up with Michelle's friends. It's so weird to see people out of context. But it was really fun and I saw parts of Sydney I hadn't seen in years. We did the Blue Mountains, and saw my camp. When we got to camp there were even kangaroos here, and we met the horses. The next day we went to Watsons Bay and the Finger Wharf. Oh and we decided to go horse riding. Oh my god. We had to go to a place where you could hire horses as we only have 2 and there 4 of us. So went this place out near Sydney Harbour. When we got there - the place is right in between the maximum security prison, the sewage treatment plant, and a rifle range. I swear to god, as we were riding I could feel bullets zinging past my head.

I tried to pull the plug a couple of times but Steve said we should go, because it was too funny not to. I went to get on my horse and I could get my whole fist in under the girth. The girls says to me "oh that's ok". And I'm like "no it's really not". There was an 8 year old girl leading our trail, crying to her mom the whole time because she did not want to lead. And at one point during the ride, she asked us if we wanted to canter, on conrete, downhill. Even Steve said no! I'm going to have to write a letter today. The place is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

So I feel a bit shattered as a tour guide. I'll have to redeem myself if and when anyone else ever comes to visit.

We have holiday camp coming up next week which means I have to be ready to move in on Monday. This is the week with out pretty hardcore kids. I love it and I dread it all at the same time. I dread not going home all week and not seeing my husband. But I love feeling like we have done something really good for these kids.

Anyway this is a pretty huge update for me. Hope all are safe and well!
