Injury

I guess I ramped up my milage too quickly from being of after my surgery. I have shin pains now. Darn it! I have never had this before. I have felt it for the last three runs. I had a lot of shin splint problems recently too. I stared doing shin exercises. I put my heel on the ground, put some weight on it, and flex the ankle up and down. This supposedly both strengthens and stretches those muscles. I also started running in the Nike Free shoes, which is supposed to strengthen lower leg muscles.

After reading both "Explosive Running" and "Chi Running," I try to relax the lower legs and not push off so hard anymore. It's the pushing off that causes shin splints.

Thanks. Yeah, I have been pushing the pace lately too.

How long did you have to stop running?

Well, let's see... Maybe three weeks to a month? It was from increasing my mileage too quickly, as I went from 0-->60 mpw in no time flat last spring.

I have somehow managed to stay uninjured since the end of summer, even though I've been doing 70-80 mpw. I think it's partly because I run on dirt a lot now, but my feet and lower legs also feel stronger since I do about 10-15 mpw in the Frees.

My guess would be a week or two, but that was sprinting.

I guess I can live with that. I hope it is not any longer than that.
