8.07: in which I hope the language professor is a recurring character

1. Okay, seriously now, they changed the sound effect in the 'previously', didn't they? That was definitely a door shutting and could in no way be confused for a gunshot. Dear Sarah, please appear next week for a proper showdown.

2. I just realised that the lines over the titles are spelling out 'spooks'. !!!!!!!!!

3. Why does Sarah have so many mugs and glasses in her kitchen? OMG she's an international crockery smuggler.

4. Harry: "We believe there is a high profile attack being planned on the Muslim community in this country." New Home Sec: "This can't happen." HE WASN'T ASKING THAT QUESTION, HOME SEC. (You weren't were you Harry?) Urgh, New Home Sec is so damn average. And so is Harry, at the moment.

5. Dear Kid, please don't die. Please.

6. I liked the storyline: it was tense all the way through, convoluted without being too confusing, and the twist was genuinely surprising (though given it was the massively overused ~personal revenge~ card, I don't know why it came as a surprise). The tie-in with Nightingale was not. I am kind of over the storyline where Arab/Asian/Muslim terrorists turn out to be pawns played by American/Brit/Israeli/Russian evil masterminds. I mean, I get that Kudos is trying to be all "ooh look we subverted your racial stereotyping", but it's just more insulting. I'm sure someone else has already been over this, but it was particularly annoying in this episode.

7. Also, re: next week's trailer, I am kind of over Global Disaster too. Is distaster within the juristiction of MI5 no longer frightening enough?

8. Good things: The Grid dynamic is improving! Ruth got to play old Ruth, and oh how I have missed someone in that role. I loved that she still has that passionate conflict between the cold-hearted Greater Good and what she morally knows is wrong. (It is painfully obvious that she is replacing Jo in this role, although I guess Jo replaced her in the first place.) It would have been nice if Harry had actually listened to her rather than thanking her for reminding him and then ploughing right ahead with the same course of action. And I could really have done without the hand-touching.

9. Tariq gets a lesson in spy angst and pulls at my heartstrings. I like Lucas as his sort-of mentor, and how it ties back to Lucas' attempts to get Ben out for a drink. (OH BEN.) And Tariq is not always the boy wonder: I loved his reaction when Sarah's memory stick was self-destructing. "Oh, crap." Someone please write fic where he has to explain to Harry how he screwed up, and Harry doesn't understand any of it but is appalled as his vision of Tariq the Magic Man comes crashing down.

10. Lucas gets just the right amount of saving the day, and I loved his underplayed reaction to "Victor played him like you played me, Liar-Man." Great contrast to Ros' deadpan "I lied." But still: dear Lucas, please don't angst about being a Liar-Man.

I have a very important question. Is next week the finale? If so I have no idea how they're planning on bringing all this shit together. (Oh that's right. Where did I get that expectation from?)
