8.06: they're fundamental laws!
I laughed in this episode! And it wasn't always at the episode!
1. If Sarah was MI5/6 instead of CIA, and not bothering with the accent, and sort of a devious but still-essentially-on-the-same-side Siviter-like character, and she and Ros got to do more scenes together exactly like this one, I WOULD LIKE THAT.
2. Jo! Being mentioned again!
3. Oh my, I really fell for this week's idiotic bad guy. He was so terrible at trying to be evil and manipulative, and so cringe-worthy at running and hiding. But he was an ordinary person! He reminded me of those guys in Burn After Reading - I became very invested in the need for him not to die. And his final scene was amazing.
4. It wasn't exactly the grid-based episode I asked for, but Ruth and Tariq definitely got more to do. Hello, ensemble cast! Tariq's face when he got to give the tech-spiel - he was so excited. And I love Ruth's fondness for him.
5. But Lucas DOES have $48 million in the bank! (I am totally sold on hestia8 and afiakate's fics here.) Plus: "Your assurances are the faeces of dogs." I giggled lots.
6. Ros is a fucking ninja at controlled skids.
7. I was back and forth like a pendulum with the whole Sarah/Lucas thing. I liked how the team played it (and I loved Lucas asking Harry what he should do). I loved Sarah's "you do that judging thing" - bang on. I flinched in disgust every time she said "honey". There was a really nice part where she offered up her hands to him, but all in all she broke too early and it ended too soon. WHY WHY.
8. Oh, Home Secretary! No! Wow, Harry was really into him. Does anyone remember the time he ordered the assassination of the entire of Section D?
9. So, that was my favourite Ruth/Harry moment EVER. "Let's?" "OK." LOVE. The ending of this episode was really strong, I thought. A nice balance of lots of little things, rather than the usual aftermath-focusing-too-much-on-this-week's-character-then-shock-surprise-impending-doom.
10. My first thought when Tariq said Pakistan was still OMG ZAF. I am not giving up on this yet; I don't think I ever will.
Edit: OH MY, so that thing which I thought happened re: Sarah didn't even happen! You guys! I'm so excited! And also an idiot!
I am getting to watch this series before a lot of the UK. This is a novel experience! When you've ~caught up~, do please let me know what you thought.
