Friday, during the day, sucked ass. Mounds of it. Both personally and professionally. Not the whole "woe is me, must go home and cry under my sheets", but certainly enough to bum a smoke from a co-worker and stare at my feet for a little while. But you know what? It all got better after 5 :)
My friend and I have gotten together after 5 on Friday two weeks in a row now. And I'm loving it. He came over for a few minutes and we went out to dinner, just talking and BSing and whining at each other. Then we went to 6th street. Not for drinks; for tattoos :) My momma was very generous to me and my friend and I made it out to see my favorite artist who cleaned up my idea and, within 20 minutes of our arrival, I was under the needle again. First time in almost 11 months. The pain was as I remembered, but I always forget about the sticky ooziness that is the first 48 hours after. At least I'm on to lotion now :)
Saturday was quiet. I slept in, watched some TV and went to Austin Strings. My favorite thing about them is they are not condescending at all like the proprietors (how's that for verbiage? suck it!) of other local string shops. They took it in for the strings, but also felt a little bridge/peg work would be beneficial, so I left it for a couple of hours. I went to lunch alone at Kerby Lane for some queso and coffee while I finished off my 680 page book. I am accomplished reader, hear me roar. And then back to the shop to pick up the viola. Between the strings and the little bit of work, the total cost of the instrument is now at $180(ish). And when I took it home to play (after a run to the book store for waaaaay to much spent on my book rations for the next month lol) it was discovered to be worth every penny. The tone is incredible and (dare I say) I think it's a bit easier to play than my violin (only because there's more room between strings so it's a bit harder to make them squeak). I still haven't taken pics, but I promise they will come soon. The rest of the night was spent vegging on TV and books.
Sunday was also a quiet day. The weekly cleaning, the bit of TV, the grocery shopping (I think I've decided to make this fruit salad a weekly thing), more viola playing and so on. And the evening ended the same as Saturday. Excepting the conversation with strangers (the woman who checked me out at Target, the ladies at the string shop, my waiter), I had no personal interaction at all on my days off. It was quite unusual. And not really something I want to do on a regular basis.
Anyway, today we're back to work (and therefore interaction), and I have a lot of pictures of the newest addition to my skin, as well as a few from where the sidewalk ends....

And now the sidewalk. The thing I love about where I live is the ability to walk for miles and end up just about anywhere. The thing I hate is the further you walk, the more likely you are to end up walking in the street.. because the city gives you sidewalk, then just takes it away. Like so:
How very Shell Silverstein of Austin, huh?
