Meet n Greet

...was tonight.  Got all kinds of paperwork, explanations, advice about finding gear, etc.  Since I've already been geeking out over this hard-core, I'd been saving my pennies and had a good idea of down to 2-3 different skates that I would buy.  So I got to try them on tonight at the pro shop and actually ended up going ahead and buying them.  I got the Riedell Vixens, which are a good, middle-grade derby skate.  Plus, they have a cute kinda graffiti style logo printed in white on the entire right side of each skate.  Didn't buy any pads yet because I wanna shop around some more.  Already have a helmet and mouthguard from previous sports played, so I'm getting there on the gear front.

As for the actual skating, none tonight.  It was strictly meeting then observation of the regular practice.  I DID just skate around in my postage stamp of a kitchen a little bit ago, which I'm sure my neighbor downstairs just loved.  The mandatory "newbie workshop" is on the 25th, but I think I'll try to put in some rink time on my own this weekend at the very least, and maybe on one of my days off next week.  Def a bit rusty and I KNOW I need to work on my endurance!

Still couldn't shake the shy girl routine, but the derby girls (and even some of the other newbies) were good about drawing me out.  One of the girls seemed really stoked about how much skate experience I have, so yayz!
