Warnings: Physical pain, wolfieness, mostly harmless but you never know.

Maki didn't work the day before a full moon. She didn't go to class either. It would have been useless to go anyway, not when she couldn't concentrate on a thing. It was a familiar pattern, but one that she never entirely got used to when once a month everything that made her a normal, civilized human began to unravel. And was replaced instead with more primal thoughts, all instinct, all nature.

Details would begin to escape Maki, and her desire to roam the city aimlessly began to rise. This was not something Maki let herself do. She didn't trust herself, this close to the moon, not to go off into a wrong end of town without stopping to think it through. On the cusp of her change, the wolf side of her had a lot more to say about where to go then any logic Maki possessed.

Normally, by six, Maki would be at the institute, safely locked away, but this time was different. Ohno and Nino were coming. It had taken some careful discussion on the idea before Maki could let herself be comfortable with this, but she began to be, and after some deliberation, they had decided it would be best to meet at her place. It had been a very long time since Maki made this change outside of a very controlled environment, but she was doing her best to believe nothing would go wrong.

So she kept herself cloistered in her apartment for the day, sleeping through the middle part of the day when the compulsion took her to do so. When the restless began to hit, Maki paced her floor, wandering the apartment making sure it was as wolf-proof as she could make it in her current disquieted state. Anything chew-able was put out of sight, anything delicate was tucked safely away. After awhile she unfolded the futon couch into a proper bed, easier for the wolf to sleep on, for...everyone to fit on.

She'd made her tea, from Meisa's grandmother, and drank it down, and while bitter it helped to ease some of the manic drive of the wolf, but Maki still felt tense. It was drawing nearer.

But so were they, and while Maki didn't know for certain, she was betting on the fact that their presence alone would help.
