Character History: Sho's youth was, in comparison with the life he leads now, fairly ordinary. He was born an American citizen, his parents having moved to the USA soon after marrying in Japan, and grew up in Connecticut in an upper middle-class home. Being guided by his parents to choose the "right path" to success, he attended a prep school, played for the school's soccer team, took piano lessons, racked up community service hours, and eventually was accepted to Columbia University, where he majored and earned a degree in Economics - Operations Research.
But unlike his classmates, who used privilege as an excuse to do little more than drink and attend concerts, Sho's strict family life forced him to put dreams on the backburner, entering the workforce his sole priority.
Had it not been for one event in Sho's senior year of high school, his life could be drastically different, the life his parents had planned for him from birth. Having accidentally conveyed the wrong day and time for his volunteering cleaning up a local park, Sho returned early from school one day to find his mother in the embrace of another man. Though his mother eventually confessed her affair to his father and the two overcame the issue together, Sho was changed forever.
Not because of his parents' example, but because of his choice to convey his thoughts and feelings on the situation to a peer he had no idea was a warlock. Explaining that he could never fall in love, not if it was so easy to lie, his peer assured him that when the time came - Sho would never lie to his lover - unintentionally locking Sho into a curse.
Ever since, if there is the slightest hint of attraction to someone and Sho recognizes it, he is physically incapable of lying to that person. What would have seemed like a positive condition actually ruined several of his relationships throughout college. Never having known the power of a white lie, Sho didn't understand the implications of always telling the truth. Now he has no choice, with no knowledge of how to break the curse, so long as he feels romantic chemistry.
Figuring himself hopeless in romance, Sho decided to remain in New York City after college, where he assumes love is less a possibility than anywhere else in the country, no matter what the movies say. It takes a lot to get him to even attempt a relationship, and when he does flirt it's awkward without lies to help him preserve a bit of dignity. Having unintentionally ruined his love life, Sho became determined to save his personal life in all other respects.
Not caring about the economics degree he worked so hard to achieve, Sho instead decided to pursue his own true interests. Photography was a hobby he'd discovered all his own, and after investing in some cameras, Sho began selling his work to magazines, newspapers, whoever would pay. Gaining a job opportunity in a television studio from a friend, Sho also took a part-time job as a studio camera operator for a day-time soap filmed in NYC, hoping to perhaps one day climb the ladder.
Though he's still unsure of what direction his career will take, he is sure that he is destined to live alone in his NYC loft, and occasionally visits animal shelters... just in case his landlord changes his mind about that no pet policy.

He didn't think she was fat, he really didn't! She was perfectly skinny, in fact, her body was not to be believed. But because she worked out on a regular basis, she'd developed some muscle, and not every pair of pants was going to suit her every line and curve.
"They don't make you look fat, they just... your hips just look..." Sho fumbled. Why couldn't he just say they looked good? What was SO DIFFICULT about saying the pants looked good? "Your hips are just biggish... with those pants on."
She scoffed and stormed back into the bedroom, shouting something about spending hours picking pout that pair. The real question was why she'd even bothered asking him about it then!
Sho dropped to the couch, grabbing for the newspaper he'd yet to finish skimming, drowning his sorrows in the sports section. There was hardly even a blip about the world of soccer. Today? Life sucked.
