Yay! Found a seamstress!
A friend of someone at work does fancy sewing projects like prom dresses, etc., and has agreed to do the taking in of the dress for me. I'm taking Tom to work tomorrow and driving out there to meet her. She lives out in the area where we used to work, about a 45 minute drive. Not too bad, and I really appreciate her agreeing to do it with such short notice, so it's completely worth it. She seemed very nice on the phone, and I trust Cindy's judgment (the girl at work), so it should be fine.
I've decided to use some shoes that I already owned, since I'm short on time and money. I need to have the proper height for fitting for alterations tomorrow, so I'm just going to go with these. They're not the most comfortable in the world, but they're okay. I think the coloring is pretty good, too - kind of a dark bronze-brown. I couldn't find the exact picture of my shoe, but searched a bit & here are a few pics that are close in style:
