Hello, I’m Waruji (Serpentine Wisdom on ffnet) I’m a university student currently writing a 25-40 page essay about fandom on the web for my sociology class and I would be really grateful if you would answer a few questions for me. I'm not sure if this post is allowed, if it isn't I apologise. Just tell me and I’ll remove it.

1) It's an escape from real life, somewhere a person can go and be a part of the fantasy or even write the fantasy out.
2) It helps in my writing and lets me see how others see the characters I do. So reading and writing.
3) To many that I can remember but CSI(all 3 though only Miami cuz of The Hardy Boys), Merlin, Chuck, this one, getting into Star Trek(2009 mostly),Boondock Saint, Sentinel, NCIS, NCIS LA, Buffy/Angel, Inuyasha, Gundam Wing, Harry Potter a bit, and more....
4) The positive is reading what others wrote on different fandoms. Negative I believe is how the slashers are looked at still, the Mpreggers, and the flames.
5) Yes, people can write things and not get worried about having the writings come back on them negatively.
6) I'll admit it. People don't understand, especially about slash but it's not something I'm ashamed of. I just haven't told everyone(parents)yet cuz of how they see things. I'll even admit I read incest but that's mostly because the actors aren't related in real life. Yes, I read some real life incest but I know the difference between real and fake. Some are easier to talk to because they read it themselves(my sister) while others know I write it but think it's weird.
7) I grew out of fandom and don't have the time. But I can't see that right now.
8) People write more which gives readers more to read while smaller fandoms are still growing or don't have enough to keep people interested. Smaller fandoms seem to know whats real and isn't a bit easier than larger fandoms.
9) I seem to write a bit more in fantasy. I also liked het a lot more then when I do now. As to new fandoms I seem to lurk for a while before I get into them. I really dislike OCs and try not to write my own unless I can make them seem more fandom like and not RL. I'll admit I write them and read them but still hate them.
10) Easier to read but then I've been in fandom for years and still considered myself a newbie cuz I don't spend as much time as other writers do on their writings.
11) Not that I know of. Most are written down. If there was maybe flames, actually explaining why a person doesn't like the story instead of bringing it down with no explanation.
12) Not that I know of. People seem to be in more than one now instead of one so why would they be valued less. Yes, people write more in one than the other but they still keep up with the other fandoms even if it's just in reading.
13) I don't think so. I still perfer FF.net to find stories and read stories but I do go to Adultfanfiction.net and other sites. If there are sites that have a higher status it's because people go to them a lot more. I read WWOMB but it's not as huge as FF.net. Not to mention I see stories on FF.net I see other places so...I guess it's what you read and where you read. FF.net is where a person starts but people still stay even after going to other sites so it depends on the fandom and the person.
14) Positive is that a lot of ships someone wouldn't think of another does. It makes an interesting read and makes canon actually interesting to watch(the Hardy Boys from CSI Miami for one). The Negative is that one ship seems to always get put down by others no matter how much people try not to put it down.(Arthur/Gwen and Edward/Bella are what I don't like and seems to be put down alot. Especially Edward/Bella.) I ship characters because I saw something in the show or the movie that led me to thinking about how they act together. Not to mention reading all about the ship before I even saw the movie or the show.
15) It can be bizarre but people expore the ideas, mpreg, incest, beastality, crossovers, etc for some examples. Any show can be crossed and sometimes make sense while not in other ways. (Twilight seems better crossed than by itself though I read both. Buffy/Angel can be crossed and do anything and it's a interesting read or way. Doom, Transformers, HP, SG1 and SGA, and Power Rangers for more examples)
