A Lady Who Lunches

Yesterday, it was lunch with the Artistic Director of the Actors Company of Tulsa. Lots and lots and  lots of ideas! I was offered the chance to participate in an actor's showcase and I offered to help with their next production of Angels in America and coordinate 5% of the proceeds being donated to an HIV Service Organization. They seem to have a lot of ideas, but I question their capital. Could me one of those "get in on the ground floor" and make things happen type of things.

Today, I met with the head Production Manager of the Tulsa Opera. His resume and experience are astonishing. He is a complete professional and has worked at the Tulsa Opera for many years. I was offered the chance to sit-in on an opera rehearsal. I am SO totally going to take him up on it. He told me that Stage Managing an opera is a completely different animal from stage managing a theatre production. He hires "assistance stage managers" in the spring and if I were to join a union, I could command a better wage. He also cautioned me against getting involved with production companies who aren't going to pay me or will de-value what it is I do. He said I also need to have very clear boundaries on what I'm capable of and be sure to stay within those boundaries.

NOTE TO SELF: look up what union he's involved with and if I'm going to pursue this as a career choice - join the union.

Oh, the bees in my head are buzzing!
