Tell me more, tell me more

Ah Summer, thou art a harsh and fleeting mistress.

Seems like just a few days ago I was walking across the stage to get my diploma, and now I'm poised to leave for Kingsville in just two short weeks. I suppose I could blame summer school for chomping up my time, but the truth of the matter is that time flies when you're having fun.

It really has been a good summer - full of comic books, video games, and other such entertainment that I missed out on account of last semester being so busy. Still haven't made it past the stereotypically drunk Russian Soda Popinski in Punch-Out! but I AM slowly but surely getting better at the game. I finally got the opportunity to read Pluto by Naoki Urasawa, which was absolutely phenomenal and is now on my “Favorite Mangas” list. I also managed to get myself hooked on True Blood (HBO series about vampires) - although I hate to admit it shares some superficial similarities to Twilight, which I can’t stand. My only consolation is that True Blood is gory as hell and has vampires which are… oh I don’t know… ACTUALLY THREATENING. It’s not anything groundbreaking, but I really like the supernatural suspense.

I've also been spending a lot of time hanging out with friends before everyone goes their separate ways with regards to school and employment. Last Saturday, I went to Schlitterbahn with my #1 Biochemistry buddy - ever since sophomore year, we've always been in the same chemistry lab together. And even though going to Schlitterbahn on a Saturday was a bit of a bad move (the lines were goddamn ridiculous), it was great just being able to spend time with her. I realized how much I’m going to miss having her as a classmate and friend. She’s going off to Arizona for a graduate chemistry program, but at least we promised we would write each other and complain about our respective schools.

One of the things that most concerns me about moving to Kingsville is the whole “having to make new friends” ordeal. I’m bad about isolating myself when I’m worried about academia - I often think I spend more time with textbooks than I do with people. But hopefully I’ll find a kindred spirit among my P1 class at A&M. There’s got to be at least one in a group of eighty-eight pharmacy nerds.

On a note of personal amusement, I recently received contact info for my future roommates (I’m going to have an apartment with three other people, although I’ll have my own room) and they all have Asian names. I'm going to be the Token Whitey! Jokes aside, they seem nice from the little bit that I've talked to them. Hopefully everyone gets along - I've had such wonderful luck with roommates thus far and I hope it doesn't change.

Back to working on Public Speaking junk. Just three more days and I'm done with summer school!
