I pulled off attending a metal show while on-call. No calls/messages
plus the on site personnel handled things. Really happy as I hit Dallas city limits around 0130.
Dinner Abortion
Tried to hit a burger joint featuring a mesquite-grilled 10 pepper burger but unfortunately the effect of
being featured on Food Network had a line of about 60 people plus a full restaurant at 1800. After 45 minutes,
they announced they ran out of food and were re-prepping. Having worked in restaurants, this meant it would
be another 1.5 hours before I would eat and a good chance the food wouldn't be up to snuff.
Not worth it so I hit an old fave,
Campo Verde, a Tex-Mex place blessed by the gods of GAUDY that always satisfies.
Check out the photo gallery on their wonky website [scroll to near the bottom].
Dive Down Memory Lane
Sunshine Bar is a lovely dive from my college days. I killed a bit of time there with some tasty $1.50 draft beer.
Around eight years ago, it upgraded to “hipster dive” with PBR, Lone Star [TX's PBR] and Ace Cider on draft along
with expanding their bottled beers.
For the record, they've always provided matchbooks with bail bondsman ads.
Maiestas at El Rancho
Interment opened the show with their early 90's style death metal because that's when they formed.
Live, they have a early Carcass feel due to the drummer.
At the Hellgoat show, I ran into an old friend Dave[ex-Magus, ex-Absu] that I played with in a band back in the early 90's.
This brought me out to the show. His current band,
Maiestas did a good job releasing a metallized black plague. Very distinctive
presence on the bill plus a well structured set list. Can't wait to catch them at a club with a better soundman and sound system.
