Every once in a while, I get a taste of what life was like when I could schedule my friends and I to get together in advance. Add to that sleeping late as this demon needs plenty of slumber. Maybe by late October, I might be able to do so for the rest of the year and into 2010, if not, there’s some career choices to be made as I want to have a life.
OktoFest’s Foul Stench
It’s not a bad day off when the only appointment on your to-do list is an OktoberFest keg tapping ceremony. Addison’s fest is one of the largest in the U.S. and they do have their s-h-i-t together but is slightly surreal at times.
Surreality #1: A German Festival keg tapping was done by an Asian city mayor. Only in the melting pot that is America. Technically, he did it in one hit.
Surreality #2: The oddest bit was freshly laid mulch was ALL OVER THE FEST. That coupled with the humidity made the stench horrid.
Overall, it was nothing too exciting but it was nice to see friends that I haven't hung with in a couple of months.
Try to Keep It Holy
I normally don’t drink too far from home but since we were already halfway there, the gang hit a new pub in Fricsco/Plano - The Holy Grail. Good draft/bottle selection and food but too far from home. A little too much blue cheese on the burger but I manged my way fine.
When It Ends In Three
After being way too far north, we got back into our comfort zone in the welcoming arms of Trinity Hall -always a sure bet. I still refuse to acknowledge compact car parking. Real Ale’s Octoberfest and Anniversary ales featured spots on the taps were taken advantage of. I look forward to visiting them again next week for
Arthur’s birthday.
