Look what I made! COOKIES \o/

This weekend I finally made time to try rabidfan's recipe for Thin and Crisp Chocolate Chip Cookies. If you followed any of my previous baking experiments, you already know I have no skills whatsoever when it comes to food preparation. (If you haven't, just check the cupcake experiment-tag;) Despite previous experience I always expect to magically turn into a goddess in the kitchen. Yet once again the whole thing ended up being more like a comedy performance.
:-D

It all started yesterday afternoon...

Following the recipe to the letter. Well, with measurements converted to a more sensible the metric system...

Mixing first the sugars, butter, eggs and water, with a seperate bowl for the flour, salt and baking powder, just as instructed:) I did mix everything by hand, because I don't have any electrical kitchen machines.

After putting everything together and adding chocolate chips, the (very tasty!) cookie dough was ready for.... the freezer? Yes, according to this recipe, the dough had to set in the freezer for 1 hour before putting it in the oven. So that's what I did.

An hour later I put the tray in the pre-heated oven for 20 minutes. DUNDUNDUN...

This is what it looked like when I checked after ten minutes. Ehm. That doesn't seem right. But maybe it would still turn into something cookie-like? *bites lip*

Indeed. Another ten minutes later, it did look more solid, but I wouldn't call it a cookie. Even though it smelled like one, mmmmmm. (It didn't taste bad either *grins*)

After consulting rabidfan I added a bit more flour to the mix and limited the time in the freezer to 15 minutes.

As you can see, the dough still melted, but the end result was slightly better. Emphasis on slightly;)

I decided to give the experiment a rest for the night and I tried again this morning.

It seemed to me that there was something off with the calculations to get from cups to grams. Because those US measurements don't make any sense to me, I had used the converter from a traditional baking-site. I had found it weird that even though "cups" are based on volume and "grams" on weight, the site told me 2 cups of brown sugar was - a lot - more than 2.25 cups of flour. But since I have no knowledge of baking, I trusted the source. It wasn't until after I saw the melted dough that I remembered I had had the same problem with cupcake batter turning into liquid (the infamous honey cupcakes). And because this recipe came with additional granulated sugar, I figured the proportion between the sugars and flour was not right. So this morning I added a substantial amount of flour to the mix, to balance out the sugars...

Et voila! Batch number three! THEY TOTALLY LOOK LIKE COOKIES. \o/

Aaaaaaaaaaand batch number four. This time I turned the tray around halfway through. Pretty good, huh?

They tasted like Crisp Chocolate Chip Cookies too! And thanks to a surprise visit from brotherdearest this evening, I can tell you it's not just me: they really are delicious:)

Thank you, rabidfan, for the recipe and your online help (and for not laughing at my silly questions;) Lets do this again sometime! Wait! Where are you going? Come back! I was kidding!

yeah baby, family
