OK, so this week we are talking about Conversations at Curlow Creek! I am sorry to be so blatantly honest but I really can't stand that book!! I like it when Michael reads it to us. That's why i chose to add this picture to the entry. I liked the way Michael read the first few pages and we analysed how much we learnt about the characters. But I just can't do that on my own. Maybe I just can't read but everytime I try to read it I literally fall asleep.
Maybe it's just not sinking in because I am distracted by other things and do not have a clear mind when reading, but I can read 5 pages and as soon as I've finished just wonder, "What was that about?" And I find myself having to read sentences over and over again because I miss something important like the "verb" which is placed in the oddest of positions in the sentence. I don't like it, it is draining and I believe that you need to be a lot more clever than I to just read once and comprehend the book without frustration.
I have nothing against Malouf as a writer because I haven't read any of his other books, but I like to relax when I'm reading and find that I have to constantly break down and reconstruct sentences in order to understand what Malouf is trying to say and it is very tiring.
Perhaps if I wasn't in such a hurry to finish the book for the unit assessments then I would have a clearer mind and be able to read through and decipher it at my own pace.
Maybe he'll change my mind at the lecture next week!!!
