Lighting:
I have neglected to mention this but the lighting in our new place is horrible. Other then the kitchen and hallway, we have no overhead fixtures. That just seems so irrational to me. I know it will be well over a year before we pay someone to come in and re-wire the place and I will dread everyday until that happens. I guess we could make it a priority and get it done sooner rather then later but spending the money on that just irks me. For now I guess we just have to reside in a place that is dark and dungy because no amount of floor and table lighting will ever amount, in my opinion, to the look of ceiling lights. And it doesn’t help that I seem to hate every floor lamp I see. If anyone has a solution to that matter I’m all ears.

Paint:
Between now and Thursday I need to finalize the living room paint color. This wouldn’t be so hard but after picking the most hideous blue for the bathroom I have some self doubt. I’ve given this a lot of thought because I truly am unhappy with the color and I think I may know what the problem is but I’m not entirely certain. Thing is, I got the color in an eggshell versus flat paint. I *only* like flat paint but in an effort to obey those painting laws - you know, the ones that say never use flat paint in a high traffic place like bathrooms and kitchens - I got eggshell. I think the gloss is my issue and I also think it’s making the color seem so much bluer.

Photo behind the cut -

Here’s the color I’m loathing. I keep thinking that if pepto bismo (sp?) pink were a blue, this would be it. It seems so loud. Anyway, here is a photo taken in the room. The color on the top right of the photo is the truest to what it looks like in real life.

I put a bunch of swatches on our living room wall and hopefully by the end of this week one will be screaming true love to me. Here are the ones I am playing with. I really love the center larger swatch but it’s too dark. We really want something that will keep the room light and air, which this definitely isn’t doing. I think what I do like about it is the gray undertone and whatever color I pick needs to fall into that family. Right now I am most in like with the middle color on the left.

Odd tidbit: In the last photo are two urns from our wedding. The plan is to plant grass into them but I need to figure out how to really do that.

Wallpaper:
Yes, I am still stuck on wallpaper. I think I’ve finally decided to (possibly) use it in the hallway. Everyone seems to give me this huge frown when I tell them how much I’m jonesing to use the stuff but I really think it can be glamorous. I’m imagining something with a metallic luster, silver family, like the stuff you see in luxury hotels. Not grandma luxury hotels but trendy South Beach hotels. Am I making sense here. Maybe so but I’m sure people are still going to frown at me. I found two possible options today that I’ll keep in mind but unfortunately I have no photos. They were very different. One was traditional, very traditional, and had a damask pattern. It made my heart swoon and the pattern was raised. Love it, and I know it can work, but I think it will take a lot of effort to make it work with the warm modern living room we are planning on. The other was very modern, and lovely, and easy to make work with our apartment but a little less heart swooning lovely.
