Things to love about New Mexico
1. The sunsets. The mountains sit to the east of the city, and when the sun sets in the west, it gives the mountains the most beautiful pinkish purple-ish red coloring. Pair that with a mist of cloud cover on the top of the mountain and you have a beautiful scene. Thus the reason for the two mountain ranges being called the Sandias and the Manzanos.
2. The weather. It hasn't been that great lately, but usually the weather here is great. The sun shines most of the time and the weather is warm. The winters aren't bad at all, compared to Ohio. You get some snow here, but nothing like being in Ohio.
3. The mountains. There are mountains everywhere. It makes things in the ugly desert more beautiful.
4. The flowering cacti.. cactus... cactuses... Don't touch them, but some of them have the most beautiful purple and yellow flowers.
5. White Sands. It is an almost dreamy fantasy like place. You are out in the middle of nowhere standing on smooth dunes of white. Jagged mountains surround you. Did I mention that it is also in the middle of the White Sands Missle Range? The park is closed from time to time due to government testing.
6. Sante Fe. If you love art and shopping, it's the place for you.
7. Movies and famous people. There are all kinds of famous people crawling all over this city. Wild Hogs was filmed in ABQ. I could actually name off places in that movie I have been to. That's neat. The "Cincy" scenes were actually down town ABQ. I also saw Andy Dick at the airport one night. Though I didn't know who it was at the time, I just knew people were asking for his autograph. Terminator 4 is being filmed south of the city right now. No Country for Old Men was also filmed here. Also the creepy film The Hitcher...
8. Mexican food. You want authentic Mexican food... you can't get it in the midwest.
9. People driving around with mexican rap and mexican music and no one gives you funny looks... unless you happen to be white...
10. The sky at night, you can see the stars.
11. The full moon rising over the mountains.
12. The smell of rain here... it's just different. It smells fresher...
13. The Bosque. The large cottonwood trees next to the river, the smell of horse ranches and growing corn.... and the smell of good food.
14. Flying Star Cafe
15. Satellite Coffee
16. Just the sight of snow in the desert.
17. Snow on the mountain tops
18. The view of the city from the top of Sandia Crest... it's only over 10,000 feet above sea level.
19. the view of the city from the mesa
20. Aspen trees... of all things... they are beautiful.
21. Cottonwood trees... they are huge, they have gnarled branches, they look ancient... but they are only about 50 years old. And in June they make it look like it is snowing in the middle of summer :)
