i have posted the "Down in the Lab" video here before. I am sure of it. Then again, we're talking about the 90s, so any excuse I can to post it. It is after all, the greatest music video of all time....ALL TIME.
Deadbolt is the self-proclaimed "World's scariest band". They came out of the San Diego scene which was largely captured by the Cargo/Headhunter labels alongside Rocket From the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, 7 Seconds and Blink-182 (a pop punk band that released their debut album Cheshire Cat in 1994, before breaking up and never being heard from again).
Deadbolt are similar in style to the Cramps (B Movie theme + surf + rockabilly +goth), but play it with a more slowed down swamp rock sound. They aren't as immediately accessible as the Cramps or say, Southern Culture on the Skids, but still a good time and a good band.
They are known to use power tools on stage, and play guitar with heavy-duty gloves (Nothing special? You try it). By now, they've released something like 8 albums (and a couple of live discs on top of that), and if they have slowed down since the 90s, they still return every few years with new material.
There's not much difference between their albums, and each has a mix of good and bad, but are mostly fun listens. The band is now supporting their recent release Voodoo Moonshiner. Voodoo Moonshiner (in my humble opinion) is probably their strongest work yet. If you want to know where to start, I'd suggest there.
From 94's Shrunken Head - "Down in the Lab" and from 94's Tiki Man - "Who the hell is Mrs. Valdez?"
