Time to make a top list of albums released during 2010. It has been a good year, probably missed one of two albums.
1. ACCEPT - Blood of Nations
Accept is back and they are ready to kick your ass. I hadn't expected that they would release such a good comeback album. Excellent heavy metal.
Favourite track: Rollin' thunder
2. TRIPTYKON - Eparistera Daimones
Never thought Tom G. Warrior would be so dark and doomy. The mood of the album is all black despair and it is very good.
Favourite track: Goetia
3. FINNTROLL: Nifelvind
This time Finntroll gets it right. Not pure death metal but their trollmetal is back. And it is good to hear what the singer sings yet again.
Favourite track: Galgasång
4. MASTERPLAN: Time to be king
Didn't have much hope for this album but it was much better than I had imagined. And the best song of 2010 is on this album.
Favourite track: Lonely Winds of War
5. Buffy Sainte-Marie: Running For The Drum
I know it was released in 2009 but I couldn't find a copy of the album until this year so it is on this list. Her first album in 17 years and featuring many different styles and her wonderful voice.
Favourite track: Cho Cho Fire
6 Medieval Baebes: Temptation
A double album recorded for their show Temptation consisting of old songs. But they have never ounded so good. Good arrangements and no deadbeat.
Favourite Track: I Am Eve
7. BLAZE BAYLEY: Promise and Terror
Yet another good album from the former Iron Maiden singer. Good songs and his singing has never sounded so good. Fantastic live act.
Favourite track: Letting Go of the World
8. KAMELOT: Poetry For the Poissoned
A good return after a dissapointing album. Bothe heavy songs and melodic songs and Khan sings great as usual. Simone Simon voice fits perfectly with Khan on the duets.
Favourite Track: House on a hill
9. GRAND MAGUS: Hammer of the North
Not as a punch in the face as Iron Will but still better than most. But not many bands beat Grand Magus at their best.
Favourite track: Hammer of the North
10: BLACK LABEL SOCIETY: Order of the Black
Zakk Wylde continues on with BLS and either people love or hate it.
Favourite track: Southern Dissolution
And some albums almost made it. Avantasia would have made top one if the best songs would have been on one record. It was nice to see Borknagar return to true form.
And now for the big dissapointments of the year.
Dark Tranquillity - We Are The Void, not a bad album but I had expected more from them after the great Fiction album.
Therion - Sithra Ahra, after four great albums it comes this album in which I fund just one song to be great. Big dissapointment.
Elvenking - Red Silent Tides, how can they release such an album with nothing that grabs ahold of you. Listened to it several times and can't remember a single song.
