Expensing Ice Cream

The CEO gave FC (Fobby Cherie) and me a few of his expense reports...dating back to Summer 2007. Also, because he is computer-illiterate and most likely doesn't know how Excel functions (although we have a spreadsheet set up so all he has to do is plug in the item and the cost), he prints out the sheets...and handwrites them in...in his illegible, horrific handwriting, of course.

Anyway, that's not the issue about the expense reports. My issue is that he expensed...among many other questionable items...ICE CREAM.

Okay, business meals and fancy entertaining of clients, I can understand. But this was your good ol', All-American, McDonald's soft-serve vanilla ice cream on a cone. It wasn't like...Ben & Jerry's-type, gourmet, or anything. It was soft-serve ice cream on a cheesy yellow-spongey-waffle-wannabe cone, and it was a $1.50.

The kicker here is that he expensed this ice cream not once...but three times! And...they were three days in a row, all in August. I imagine he must have been hot or something -- which is completely understandable. But I think I would have just expensed the first ice cream cone...and then tossed the other two receipts. I'd rather lose the three bucks. Maybe it's because I'm a girl and I don't want people to know I've been gobbling down three days' worth of soft-serve the last time I went out of town on business...but come on! Ice cream? Save your receipts...it's not only just ice cream, but it's CHEAP ice cream at that!

I had this slight urge to casually saunter over to his office and tell him that my friend Natalie, who once worked for McDonald's corporate offices in the Long Beach area...once told me a story about how one of the area McDonald's had to get rid of its soft-serve ice cream machine...because the employees had neglected cleaning it out for so long, there were MAGGOTS growing in the ice cream remnants inside the machine. (And that is one of the many reasons I don't eat McDonald's regularly.)

Maybe that'll get him to stop expensing his Mickey-D's ice cream addiction through the company...

curiosity killed the cat, idiots are everywhere, bitchy mcbitcherson, horrors at work, why me?!, office bitches and snitches, i wish things were different
