I am nothing if not open to peer pressure. At least as long as it's telling me to do something I already wanted to do anyway.

Well, to the other boy who feels like a metal war-club to Sokka. It doesn't hurt that Hahn is easy on the eyes, though the angry sneering does.
It's standing with Hahn against Zhao that Sokka learns the ability to shut down pain can also be used to shut down pesky emotions like fear. That helps a lot.
That doesn't help enough.
Hahn dies. Yue dies to become the moon.
Sokka shuts down everything that doesn't make him a weapon.

Toph is tiny and her fury isn't. Her earth fury doesn't have a name because she's never heard of that idea. But once she does, she decides she loves it, and she spends days trying out names on the massive stone badgermole.
She decides she likes Ballista best. The earth fury doesn't indicate any preference one way or another.

Azula has a fire fury. Of course Azula has a fire fury. She also has an air fury, and she's shockingly fast compared to her brother. So fast she almost burns Aang.
Her friends are more interesting to Sokka. Well, one of them is. The dark girl, the one who he can sense whenever she gets close. Well, not her but her knives.
Though, she kind of feels like a knife to him. It's weird.
Ty Lee, the bubbly one, has an air fury and an earth fury both. Sokka finds out about the earth fury the hard way, when the minksnake makes him just about crazy with desire for the pink girl.
It's really painful to fight with a raging hard-on.

In Ba Sing Se, Long Feng has an earth fury and it's all Sokka can do not to go 'of course'. Having an earth fury seems almost as required to be high-ranking in the Earth Kingdom as having a fire fury seems to be in the Fire Nation.
But when they're ushered into the man's office, Sokka thinks he sees a coil of brighter fire like a snake in the middle of the eerie green fire.

In the Fire Nation, Sokka meets a man who feels like a sword. For the first time in his life, Sokka sheds the need to make himself strong and admits his weakness and how far he has to go.
Master Piandao studies him, then agrees to teach him.
It's only after Sokka forges his sword and holds it in his hands that he realizes what has actually happened. "Pullensis," he says softly, feeling his metal fury in the weapon.
Master Piandao squeezes his shoulder. "You have a lot of skill and still more potential, Sokka. Manifesting your fury is just the first step. Let's step through another lesson."
"Master," Sokka says because he can't continue to lie to this man, "I- I'm not worthy of this."

Thank you SO MUCH for writing this. For several reasons. The first one is that this is so well written and perfect for the characters. I loved how you explored all of their furys and the names were wonderful to boot. Seeing Sokka manifest his own was a real treat. The second reason I love this story is because it shows how different Avatar is from Codex. Even though they are elemental based, this really does well in drawing the line from me how things can be the same, but dissimilar.
Now I'm off to read your other fic! Woot!

I'm a bit sad I couldn't bring Zuko back in during the season two scenes, but I forgot Sokka never actually saw Zuko in Ba Sing Se. So no noticing Prince Jerkbender feels like a sword. *woes*
