I'm going to play fast and loose with this. I should have posted this days ago but I'm doing it now instead.
Of my two choices, one maybe unknown to some; the other will surprise absolutely *no one*.
Guess which ones which;)
Babylon 5 - Spoilers for the first four series. If you haven't seen the series and want to. Do Not Watch This. Watch the Series!

Opening Credits for S5 Babylon 5 - spoilers for all seasons In short - it's The West Wing and Lord Of The Rings in SPACE!. Realism, politics, good versus evil, spaceships, laughs, scares, pain, sacrifice, joy... this show has all that and a little bit more.
Babylon 5 has and most likely, will be, one of my all time favourite TV shows. It changed the rules of storytelling. Showing that people could (and would!) watch shows that unfolded over longer periods of time than 1 hour/45 minutes. That science fiction, like all good drama, lives and dies on the strenght of it's story. Not the special effects (although - B5 has some corkers!) and that it is a story to return to time and time again.
Not to mention some wonderful characters (Paging the goddess Ivanova!, Delenn, Marcus,), some cracking dialogue (note Ivanova's 'Babylon 5 mantra' rant from S1) and scenes that will still send a shiver down my spine and a tear to my eye nearly 15 years later.
If you've never visited our Last Best Hope For Peace - then do so. You won't regret it.
