This poem came about from my sitting in an empty theater. It's a very creepy experience. Sorry if it gets a bit depressing towards the end.
A theater is so lifeless,
So devoid of character
When missing its audience.
I stand on the stage
And play my part,
But my voice is lost
In rows and rows of empty seats.
The audience laps up my words,
My intonation, my moves,
My performance.
Or it used to
Before the rows emptied,
The lights dimmed and I...
I faded back into the chorus
And then into the wings.
lonelyness,
perfomance,
stage,
poetry,
theater
