My Reaction to Brokeback Mountain

Sep 14, 2008 12:47

Last night I watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time. (Yeah, yeah I know: "OMG! How can you have not seen Brokeback Mountain!?") It moved me to tears, which is incredible because I hardly ever cry at films. I woke up in the middle of the night with the first two lines for this poem in my head and they wouldn't go away until I'd written it.

Come on the Mountain with me?
We can drift together in the snow,
    Ride the peaks and valleys
Just like once upon a time.

Run with me to the Mountain?
    Escape our dear restraints,
    Collapse with tired, pillowed limbs
    And revel in the aloneness.

We could have our own Mountain.
    Do what we do best.
    Together.
    If you want.
    Build it with me?
All praise and constructive criticism is very welcome. This is the first poem I've written as a response to a film or the like. I know it can never be as beautiful as the film but this is my best attempt. Also, I anyone knows of any Brokeback comms where it might be welcome, please let me know.
