this weekend turned into a lovely time. after 20 hours of practically non-stop drawing at wintergreen over 2 days it was nice to visit richmond saturday night and sunday afternoon. went to the denali show where to my surprise many of my friends were already there. i'd never heard the band before and was just sort of tagging along with ben, but it was ok. i think i liked the music more than the vocals as she was sort of screamy. the next day karen and i met up and did some shopping in carytown, had thai lunch, pedicures, and ice cream! what could be better? i felt like a doofus for forgetting it was karen's birthday saturday night, so i hope our lovely day made up for that. while eating ice cream at baskin robbins we met an interesting old man who trapped us for a while telling us about the mechanics of coal trains and about his time in the war and shooting tigers in india. i told karen that she attracts those types of people and she seemed surprised. i couldn't think of an example at the time but after thinking about it i remember a few occasions while we were out that old men seem to gravitate to her and start conversations, like that guy at the japanese place in waynesboro, remember that karen?
anyway, i wish it would stop raining because i'd like to make a pre-beach party weekend beach trip with the kids. if not it will be less than 2 weeks till i go to cape charles and then i get double beach time when i stop in va beach on my way back. mommy van will not be available this year for transporting people to va beach as i will be driving there from the opposite direction, sorry.
