Boo! Me again... yah, who else would it be? lol
Soooo not sure what I'm doing here, guess I'm just procrastinating again (I have to study for my exam tomorrow but I can't be bothered lol) so I thought I'd come here and say hey hey hey! :D
So I've had two exams so far and the first one (Nature of the English language- all about phonetics, how we speak, speech classifications and the like) was a awful! I comepletely bombed and I'm pretty sure I failed miserably... I could answer one question, one! That was only because it was about the IPA (international phonetic alphabet) and I know that backwards, forwards and inside out... The rest of the questions were horrible. They were prattling on about this that and the other I mean here's the question I could answer;
1a) In the following passage written in the IPA idendtify:
(i) Three words which contain an error in the transcription of vowels;
(ii) Four words which contain an error in the transcription of consonants;
(iii) One word that begins and ends with an alveolar stop;
(iv) One word that contains a diphthong followed by another vowel sound;
ai dount wɒnt tə bə ru:d bət accɔ:diŋ tə mai rɪsɜ:ch wi: dount i:vən like ɒuə ʧærɪti prezənts ɪksept fə thə bʌtəflai ʌmbrelə sou ɒn ɤɪs ploy ɪz nɒt wɜ:kɪng
b) Why can Englih spelling be said to be inconsistent?
See? Easy peasy, I could do that no problemo. The questions were clear and part b of the question told me exactly what I had to write about...
Now, an example of the crap questions I couldn't answer properly (I mean I tried to but *shrug* probably shouldn't have even bothered)
a) In the following monosyllable words identify the nucleus, as well as the onset and coda where appropriate:
b) What is a syllable? Describe it's structure, it's position in the IPA, and how to determine syllable boundaries in polysyllable words.
OK first thing, we weren't even taught was a bloody nucleus, onset or coda of a word is so how the heck are we meant to answer that??
Second how do you explain what a syllable is? Of course everyone knows what it is, and polysyllables and monosyllables are but how do you explain it? You can't say "It's the beat and rhythm of a word" because apparently that's "not detailed enough"... *grr*
So as you can see, I bombed *nods*
The exam yesterday on the other hand went pretty well. :D It was Language of the Media so all we had to do was analyse extracts of articles from neswpapers and magazines focusing on differnent things like the schema and the intertextuality of the extracts... I could answer all of the questions and I was even able to put all the big technical words in there so I was happy. :)
The one tomorrow is going to be awful I can just tell but revision is sooo hard to get motivated for *sulks* I have my best friend here to force me into it and right now she's sleeping so I have no self control- the internet is here so of course I'm going to come on to prorastinate! I debated taking my internet connection out of my laptop so I didn't get tempted but then I realised I had new DVDs and I'd just end up watching them instead.. I know myself too well. :p
Not only do I have no motivation to study I've also had a bad morning... I wrote this in the frustration thread on PK but I'll put it here too because it annoyed me that much!
Stupid people that live in my hall... not on my corridor, just in the building have pissed me right off.
"Why?" I hear you cry well someone (two girls, that's all I know) thought it would be positively hilarious to come into our kitchen at like 3am and squirt salad cream everywhere!!!
I mean seriously! Why would you do that? Why would you take the time to go into someone elses kitchen and make a complete mess like that?? It was freaking everywhere! The walls, the floor, the cupboards, the notice board, the celing... They must have gone in, sprayed the cream everywhere, found it reeeally funny then left!
I just had to clean it up with two of my friends on my corridor and it wasn't a nice thing to do! We had to climb on the unstable table to get to the stuff on the ceiling and let me tell you standing by the window on an unstable table isn't the safest feeling in the world!!
That's not even the worst bit! We managed to get most of it off but where it soaked into the celing tiles we can't get the mark away! It's always going to be there and just to put the friggin tin hat on it all we're going to get charged for it!!!
Not only were we woken up at stupid o clock this morning by our irate cleaners but we had to clean up a mess we didn't even make and THEN we get charged for something we didn't do!!
Not a good start to the day...
So now I have to study in a bad mood and that's just not happening... I guess I'll get around to it eventually... I need to shower first... (another procrasination technique I've perfected over the years *grin*)
Ooh btw I have a new icon- I cant put it on here because it's too big *grumble* but it's pretteh I promise.. it has all of my ships in one icon! Yay! Plus, because I think ahead I've saved it as a photoshop file as well as a gif. image because if I get another ship (which is likely lol) or I find a better pic for the ships already in there I can just open up the photoshop file and stick it in there. How's that for forward planning? *grin*
Right, shower time... then maaaybe time to study... maybe. I'm soo gonna fail this exam...
