my four day weekend in omaha, nebraska

this was my bobie's (grandmother's) 85th birthday weekend. i drove home last weekend so that i could spend some time with katie, whom i hadn't seen since spring break and who is now done with her sophomore year at multnomah. we watched the american idol finale. it was incredibly disappointing (i.e. why was david hasselhoff crying??). thursday, my mom and i drove back up to bellingham because i forgot my laundry, which had pretty much all my clothes in it. thursday night katie and i hung out again and got frosties at wendy's. friday morning my family and i were out the door before 6:30am; and yes, that is much much much earlier than i get up.
we arrived in omaha, nebraska around 4pm local time and drove in the sweltering heat to my bobie's house, which has always looked the same (my dad informed me that she has made one update on the house - the patio - since it was built in the 1950's. it still has the original two-pronged outlets that came with the house.). we were given food once we arrived at the house, and after a while we all went to dinner at this greek restaurant and ate A LOT.
saturday morning everyone went to saturday morning services at the beth el synogogue. after services was a major luncheon for the entire congregation. later that night was a really intense dinner for my bobie's family and friends; my dad and his sisters created a dvd of pictures from throughout her life and lots of people cried. it was really nice. i was appointed official photographer for the entire weekend, so i took lots of pictures.
sunday morning the family all had brunch at my bobie's house, with a lot of leftovers from lunch at the synogogue the previous morning (bagels, cream cheeses, salads, fruit, aunt charlotte's delicious mac and cheese and millions and millions of bobie and aunt charlotte's cookies and pastries).
sunday night the family had dinner at La Casa, which has amazing pizza (yes i know, more eating). basically the most interesting part of this meal was the fact that my entire immediate and extended family decided that i will be the first of my generation (of all the cousins aged 10-23) to get married. no one gave me a reason why, so i am still confused, because i don't want to get married right now.
monday we didn't really eat as much, amazingly. we all just sat around and looked at old pictures and waited until it was time to head to the airport to catch our flight.
at the airport, my family's flight to denver was delayed because there were storms in chicago that closed the entire airport down. we got on our plane and got to denver just in time to catch our connection to seattle. unfortunately, our luggage didn't make it in time, but it caught a later flight.
subsequently, i skipped my astronomy class this morning because we got back into seattle at about 10 didn't want to drive up and arrive in bellingham at almost 1 in the morning. my mom and i drove back up here this morning at 11ish and got into bellingham a little before 1 in the afternoon. i went to my english class at 2, but didn't stay very long.
today was brendan's 20th birthday. i bought him some brownies from haggen, and they were very good. i also bought him a nebraska huskers shot glass.
i guess that's all for now. yay for only a week and a half left of school!!!!!!!!
