After a full day of jury duty, it was good to escape both that and the traffic and enjoy me some Tony Stark. Possibly I need an icon. Oh, for those of you who are interested in such things, if you wait until the very very end of the credits, there is an extra scene. Which I was glad for, as I really had to go to the restroom, and if there hadn't been one, I would've been a bit peeved I'd waited for nothing. However,
while I was quite pleased to see Cute S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent once again, not being as big a Marvel fan as a DC fan is not helping me here and I have no idea what it is they found. Help, Marvel fans? I also didn't get a very good look at it, either.
As for the rest of the movie, I quite enjoyed it! I don't think it's quite as good as the first one, but it would've been hard-pressed to manage that, I think. As it was, it was thoroughly enjoyable, even with (or really because of) Tony being his usual likable asshole self. (I swear, there were over a dozen points in the movie where I thought, "Tony, you asshole!" *snerk*) However, he was dying, so I suppose I, like Pepper, sorta kinda forgive his self-destructive tendencies. *eyeroll* Liked the new Rhodey, and liked him finally getting his suit while being the main event at Tony's birthday party; boy, those party-goers are going to have a lot to talk about later on.
Liked the Tony/Pepper scene at the end; I only hope that Tony talks her into both remaining as CEO and as his girlfriend, because I think she's awesome and can do both with equanimity. Most of the time.
I also liked the way Nick Fury is handling Tony, with just the right amount of reverse psychology which Tony is perfectly aware of yet can't quite help reacting to anyway. Another cool thing was how they dealt with Tony's dad!angst. Nothing can make it all better, of course, but maybe his daddy!issues won't bother him quite as much as they used to. Maybe? Also, I knew I recognized the guy playing Howard Stark, but I couldn't place him, so I checked IMDB and it's John Slattery from Mad Men. I didn't recognize him with dark hair. :-)
Anyway, if you liked the first movie, you liked RDJ as Tony, and you're up for a good popcorn movie with ridiculous action scenes, you will enjoy this movie.
